Overview

Monjusou Shourotei is a beautiful adult-only Japanese ryokan located near the picturesque Amanohashidate, known as the bridge between heaven and earth.

Monjusou Shourotei ryokan offers you rooms where all you can hear is the sound of the waves. The inn was recently renovated and updated while preserving its beautiful traditional Japanese aesthetic.

Accommodation

The rooms at Monjusou Shourotei have been designed by a local Japanese architecture skilled in Kyoto’s traditional architecture. Each room features wooden elements and offers views of the Japanese garden or the semi-open bath.

Some rooms come with tatami and futons while others combine Japanese and Western aesthetics, with twin beds and tatami areas for relaxation.

Dining

Monjusou Shourotei is proud to offer Kitakaiseki cuisine, which incorporates fresh, seasonal ingredients from Hokkaido. Chef Motohide Takemoto creates dishes that reflect the local flavors and the natural bounty of the area. Foodies will especially love the dining experience with an exquisite Japanese style breakfast as well.

Seasonal culinary offerings such as conger eel in summer and matsutake mushroom dishes in autumn highlight the local flavors and the chef’s culinary expertise.

Onsen & Wellness

Each villa at Monjusou Shourotei comes with both an indoor and an open-air bath, allowing you to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of hot springs in complete privacy. The onsen water, rich in minerals, is drawn from beneath the ryokan.

Guests with tattoos

If you have tattoos, you can enjoy the privacy of your own onsen without any scrutiny. You have access to both indoor and outdoor onsen to try the benefits of both in the utmost privacy. Please note that you might not be allowed in the public onsen and you should always check with the staff before making a reservation.

Facilities

Monjusou Shourotei has a public onsen area with separate facilities for men and women, which are rotated at night so you can experience both settings. There are serene spaces throughout the property to engage in contemplation and relaxation, such as the private dining room “Hourai,” which overlooks the Asoumi Sea and the Japanese garden.
