Overview

Stay just steps from one of Japan’s most beautiful natural wonders—Amanohashidate. At Monjusou, you’ll experience a Japanese-style resort with peaceful waterfront views, elegant interiors, and warm hospitality rooted in tradition. From the pine-lined sandbar outside your window to the gentle flow of the canal, this is a place where you can fully relax and reconnect with nature.

The ryokan’s thoughtful design draws on the vision of architect Junzo Yoshimura, blending traditional Japanese elements with refined comfort. Whether you’re visiting for a quiet retreat or a special celebration, Monjusou offers an escape you’ll never forget.

Accommodation

Monjusou offers a selection of rooms that let you enjoy the scenery of Amanohashidate from every angle. You can choose from spacious suites with private open-air baths or classically styled Japanese rooms filled with soft light and natural textures.

Kaze no Midori

This top-floor suite gives you panoramic views of the pine forest and Aso Bay. The open-air bath lets you enjoy the natural scenery in total comfort, surrounded by calm and quiet.

Umi no Midori

Relax in a large Japanese-style suite with an open-air bath that opens onto the canal. Wide windows bring the beauty of Amanohashidate right into your living space.

Sora no Midori

Watch the changing sky over Amanohashidate from your private bath. This suite offers a sweeping view, a modern interior, and the perfect setting for peaceful moments.

Sesshu

This traditional wooden room combines timeless design with a wide terrace facing the canal. You can enjoy a bath that feels open and airy, surrounded by soft natural light.

Mai Wing (1st & 2nd Floors)

These modern Japanese rooms come with terraces and views of the garden or pine trees. Clean lines, natural tones, and thoughtful details create a restful, resort-like space.

Setsugekka Wing

These classic wooden rooms were designed by Junzo Yoshimura. They offer a serene retreat with deep cultural character, built to harmonize with the natural surroundings.

Mai Wing (3rd Floor)

These standard Japanese rooms face the canal and are ideal for small groups. With tatami flooring and simple layouts, they offer a peaceful, casual stay in a traditional setting.

Dining

Savor the changing seasons of Amanohashidate through expertly prepared meals. Monjusou’s cuisine reflects the bounty of the Tango region, with dishes crafted to awaken all your senses.

Seasonal Kaiseki Meals

Each course highlights fresh local ingredients—from snow crab in winter to rock oysters in early summer. With every bite, you’ll experience the true taste of “Kyoto by the Sea.”

Breakfast

Start your morning with local specialties like pickled mackerel and dried flatfish. The rice is Tango-grown and holds Japan’s highest flavor rating, making even a simple bowl a highlight.

Dining Spaces

Enjoy your meals in a bright dining hall with views of the canal or in a quiet semi-private room. The setting is designed to match your pace, whether you’re enjoying conversation or simply taking in the scenery.

Onsen and Wellness

Let the waters of Amanohashidate Onsen ease your body and mind. The spring is drawn from deep underground and is known for its smooth, skin-friendly quality—often called a “beauty bath.”

Izanagi no Yu (Men’s Bath)

Soak in a stone-built bath with views of the changing seasons. The Finnish sauna lets you experience “löyly,” where water poured over hot stones creates gentle steam to encourage relaxation.

Izanami no Yu (Women’s Bath)

Bathe in a naturally gentle hot spring and enjoy the mist sauna set to a comfortable temperature. The steam soothes your body without overwhelming heat.

Rest Area

After your bath, take a moment to sit quietly and enjoy the lingering warmth. This quiet space helps you transition peacefully back to your room.
