Overview

Step into a world of quiet refinement at Shiki-no-Yuzashiki Ryokan, perched on the tallest hill in Hakone’s Miyanoshita Onsen area. Surrounded by nature, this ryokan invites you to experience authentic Japanese traditions—just a short journey from Tokyo.

The ryokan is far from the active volcanic area of Hakone, and your stay here remains completely unaffected by recent activity. As soon as you arrive, the scent of incense, seasonal flowers, and warm wood welcomes you into a slower rhythm. Let your stay begin the moment you take off your shoes and feel the gentle touch of tatami underfoot.

Accommodation

Every room at Shiki-no-Yuzashiki Ryokan is designed to bring you closer to the traditional Japanese way of life. Soft lighting, thoughtful layouts, and quiet mountain views help you unwind.

Luxury Suite “Kaede”

Enjoy a private outdoor bath overlooking the surrounding mountains. This one-of-a-kind room lets you fully disconnect from daily stress and sink into total relaxation.

Special Rooms “Zabou” with Open-Air Baths

Four rooms include private open-air baths surrounded by natural beauty. Soak at your own pace while the sounds of the mountains and forests fill the air.

Royal Suites

These rooms feature wood-carved transoms, woven ceilings, and large windows. Some include a bath, while one offers a full traditional design without it. The atmosphere alone becomes part of your experience.

Standard Japanese-Style Rooms

These ten rooms stay true to classic Japanese design. Enjoy the familiar charm of tatami floors, low tables, and sliding paper doors in a space that feels like a gentle return to the past.

Special Rooms with Rock Garden

Two rooms include a private corridor and rock garden, along with a separate space where you can enjoy meals in comfort and quiet.

Each room offers green tea and Japanese sweets on arrival. Your room attendant will explain how to wear the yukata robes provided for lounging and sleeping. Even if it’s your first time, you’ll find the yukata easy to wear and incredibly comfortable.

Dining

Your stay includes full Japanese kaiseki meals served in your room. The ryokan’s chefs take pride in every detail, from the seasonal ingredients to the artful presentation.

Dinner

Your dinner includes fresh seafood and seasonal vegetables, prepared to highlight each ingredient’s natural flavor. A standout recommendation is the grilled abalone, served on a custom plate. This dish captures the essence of refined Japanese cuisine and offers a treat for both your eyes and your palate.

Breakfast

Start your day with a wholesome Japanese breakfast. You’ll enjoy traditional dishes like the house-made yudofu—gently simmered tofu that warms both body and soul.

Drinks

Choose from a selection of carefully brewed sake, junmai (organic sake), shochu, and wine. The ryokan’s signature sake, “Tenku,” is brewed slowly to create a deep, refined flavor.

Onsen and Wellness

Let your body soak in the healing waters of Hakone in the ryokan’s signature bathing area, “Shiki-no-Yuzashiki”—which means “hot spring rooms of the four seasons.” Each bath offers its own unique view and character.

Indoor Baths

The main bath for men is called Tango-no-yu, and for women, Hina-no-yu. Both offer a quiet space to enjoy the warmth and fragrance of natural hinoki wood.

Open-Air Baths

Enjoy the refreshing breeze and the fragrance of cypress at Jyakotsu-no-yu (men) and Kozue-no-yu (women). These outdoor baths immerse you in the elements, allowing you to fully experience each season.

Private Open-Air Baths

Three private baths are available:

  • Yobanashi-no-yu, located near the fourth-floor elevator, can be used freely when not in use by others.
  • Yugoya Yamanoyu on the first floor features a mountain hut design with a wooden barrel bath and views of the Hakone Tozan Railway.
  • Kakureyu Kunpu on the second floor uses hinoki wood and Izu stone, creating a serene open-air experience highlighted by lanterns at night and birdsong in the morning.

Private baths can be reserved in 30-minute sessions. You’ll need to bring your own amenities from the room, but the natural surroundings and peaceful design make each bath unforgettable.

Guests with Tattoos

Tattoos are not restricted. If you prefer privacy, you can reserve one of the private open-air baths for your comfort.

Facilities

Yoi-zuki-tei Relaxation Room

Stop by this space on your way to the baths. Sip original blended tea while watching bamboo trees sway in the breeze. You can also enjoy sake, draft beer, or a late-night bowl of homemade noodle soup.

Let a professional aesthetician customize your treatment with essential oils and hand techniques designed to release stress. The spa offers both short and extended courses to match your needs.

Souvenir Shop “Hanaburumai”

Take home a taste of your journey. You’ll find local plum liquor, pickled plums, and other handmade gifts that capture the flavor of Hakone.
