Overview
Oshima Onsen Hotel sits in the heart of Izu Oshima, surrounded by untouched forests and the powerful presence of Mount Mihara. You can reach the island in as little as 1 hour and 45 minutes from Tokyo, making this hot spring retreat perfect for a short escape or a longer relaxing stay. From the rooftop terrace, you can look out across the vast Pacific Ocean by day and gaze at the stars by night. With direct views of Mount Mihara from nearly every corner of the hotel—including the baths, rooms, and restaurant—you’ll feel fully connected to the island’s volcanic beauty.
Accommodation
The hotel features 38 Japanese-style rooms, all designed to help you unwind after a day of island adventures. Every room includes a tatami-mat floor and a low table for relaxing with tea. Choose a mountain-side room and enjoy the endless view of the forest and Mount Mihara, or opt for a sea-facing room for glimpses of the Izu Peninsula and, on clear days, Mount Fuji.
Some rooms include private baths with water drawn straight from the hotel’s natural hot spring source. If you want extra space and luxury, reserve one of the spacious 15-mat special rooms. These larger rooms include a broad sitting area and their own scenic bath, perfect for soaking while watching the mountain landscape shift with the light.
Dining
Dinner centers around the hotel’s signature dish—Camellia Fondue. You dip fresh, local seafood and vegetables into pure camellia oil pressed from Oshima’s own tsubaki nuts. It’s a light and flavorful way to enjoy the island’s natural bounty. You can also try kinmedai (splendid alfonsino) shabu-shabu, cooked at your table with slices of this delicate, locally caught fish.
You can choose your meal size and upgrade your dinner to include more premium ingredients like lobster, sea snails, or local shellfish. Add-ons are available by advance request, and the hotel offers three tiers of dinner: Standard, Upgraded, and Premium.
Breakfast includes either a Japanese set meal or a buffet, depending on the day’s schedule. Either way, you’ll find plenty of seasonal vegetables, fish, and local flavors to start your day.
Onsen and Wellness
The hot spring at Oshima Onsen Hotel flows directly from a source 300 meters below ground. The water arrives at over 69°C and fills both indoor and outdoor baths without any chemical treatment or recycling. When you soak in the outdoor bath, you face an unobstructed view of Mount Mihara rising above the forest. The open-air setting and natural mineral water offer a deeply restorative experience.
The baths are open until midnight and reopen early in the morning, so you can enjoy them under both the afternoon sun and the morning mist. Day-trippers are also welcome during set hours.
Guests with Tattoos
If you have tattoos, you can use the public baths without restriction. If you prefer privacy, ask about the rooms with private hot spring baths.
Facilities
The hotel includes a restaurant, a souvenir shop, banquet rooms, and even a ping-pong table for lighthearted fun after dinner. You’ll find free Wi-Fi in the lobby area, although wired internet access is not available. The hotel is fully non-smoking, including all rooms and common areas. There is free parking for about 50 vehicles, and while pets are not allowed to stay, staff are available from 9:00 to 21:00 to help with any questions or needs.
Barrier-free features are available throughout the property, including an elevator with wheelchair access to the second-floor rooms and accessible restrooms on the lobby level. Renovated rooms include reclining beds and equipment for those who require extra care or comfort.

The hotel’s location makes it easy to enjoy outdoor activities. Take a cycling trip around the island, or hike up Mount Mihara for dramatic views of the volcanic crater. After a long day, return to your room, soak in the bath, and rest with a view of the stars from the rooftop terrace, open until 21:30 when weather allows.
