Overview
Step into a quiet, traditional retreat in the middle of one of Tokyo’s busiest neighborhoods. Ryokan Mikawaya Main Store brings you close to the heart of Asakusa’s deep cultural roots while giving you easy access to modern Tokyo. You’ll stay just around the corner from Kaminarimon Gate, Nakamise-dori, and Sensoji Temple—the most visited temple in Tokyo.
The ryokan sits only two minutes on foot from the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line. From there, you can head straight to Ueno, Kanda, Ginza, Shibuya, and other key districts without changing trains. This central location makes it a smart base whether you’re in town for sightseeing or work.
Accommodation
Ryokan Mikawaya offers 15 rooms designed in traditional Japanese style. Each one gives you a peaceful space where you can relax on tatami mats and experience the calm of old Tokyo. Some rooms even offer a partial view of Tokyo Skytree®, adding a special touch to your stay—especially after sunset when the tower lights up the skyline.
You can choose between spacious 12-tatami rooms for up to five people, standard 6-tatami rooms for smaller groups, and a Western-style twin room for those who prefer beds over futons. The Western-style room also includes a toilet with a bidet and a private shower.
Each room includes an air conditioner, hair dryer, electric kettle, TV, and a tea set. You can borrow an iron if needed. Wi-Fi is free in every room. After a long day out, unwind in your yukata, enjoy a warm bath or shower, and sip green tea while you plan your next adventure.
Check-in starts at 3:00 p.m. and ends at 10:00 p.m. If you arrive after 10:00 p.m., you’ll need to call ahead to avoid cancellation. The ryokan closes its front door at 11:00 p.m., but you can still enter with your room’s card key after hours. Staff are available by phone until 11:00 p.m.
Dining
The ryokan does not serve meals, but that means you’re free to explore the incredible variety of local food just steps away. Asakusa is full of cozy restaurants, noodle shops, and food stalls. Try some freshly grilled senbei rice crackers, handmade soba, or tempura with seasonal vegetables. Walk down Nakamise-dori, and you’ll find sweet treats like ningyo-yaki or dorayaki waiting for you.
Whether you’re looking for a quiet dinner or a casual bite, you’ll find something nearby to suit your taste and schedule.
Onsen and Wellness
There are no hot spring baths or shared bathhouses at Ryokan Mikawaya. Instead, you’ll enjoy a private bath or shower in your room. While it’s not a traditional onsen experience, the quiet atmosphere and clean rooms still offer the space and comfort you need to rest and recharge.
Guests with Tattoos
Since there are no shared baths, having tattoos won’t affect your stay here.
