Overview
At Senomoto Kogen Hotel, you can experience the full beauty of Mount Aso. Located on a highland plateau 920 meters above sea level, this ryokan gives you uninterrupted views of the five peaks of Aso from your room, the baths, and the dining areas. The scenery changes every hour—sunrises through the mist, glowing sunsets, and stars stretching across the sky. Take off your watch, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and let nature guide your time here.
Accommodation
All rooms are designed to bring you closer to the natural beauty of Aso. The newly renovated West Wing features wood from Oguni cedar and natural tones that echo the surrounding landscape. Large windows frame the views of the mountains and grasslands. In the Main Building, you can choose Japanese-Western style rooms with open-air baths or comfortable twin rooms designed for simple relaxation.
For the best views and a luxurious stay, the new Premium Special Rooms offer a private open-air bath and a seamless blend of indoor comfort and outdoor freedom. Every room invites you to enjoy time without distractions—just you, the mountains, and the quiet rhythm of the plateau.
Dining
Dine on fresh local cuisine at Senomoto Kogen Hotel’s buffet, which showcases over 50 dishes from Kumamoto. Savor roasted meats, handmade side dishes, and seasonal vegetables grown nearby. Enjoy local sake and shochu while gazing out over the grasslands. Whether you’re watching the sun set or the stars rise, every meal here feels like part of the natural experience.
In the morning, the breakfast buffet offers a mix of Japanese and Western dishes, using ingredients from the surrounding Aso region. Start your day with energy, surrounded by the view of Mount Aso from the dining room’s wide windows or open terrace.
Onsen and Wellness
Senomoto Kogen Hotel features three types of bathing experiences, each offering its own atmosphere and scenery:
Open-Air Bath “Hana no Yu”
Step into this bath for a panoramic view of the Aso grasslands. At night, soft lighting lets you enjoy a sky full of stars—nature’s own planetarium. In the morning, the same bath welcomes you with sunrise and mist-covered fields.
Panoramic Large Bath “Senshin no Yu”
Gaze through wide glass windows at the five peaks of Aso while soaking in the warmth of the indoor bath. The large space includes a bubble bath section and invites you to fully relax as you watch the changing seasons.
Private Baths “Gogaku” and “Momiji”
Enjoy complete privacy in one of two spacious indoor baths. These baths are perfect for couples or families who want to unwind in their own time and space. You’ll find peace and quiet with a view of the mountains or seasonal foliage.
The water here is from a simple neutral hot spring, known for being gentle on the skin and body. It’s easy to enjoy—even if you’re new to hot springs. The soft water soothes your muscles and helps melt away everyday tension.
Guests with Tattoos
You can enjoy the private baths without concern. These are ideal if you want a quiet soak in complete privacy. Please note that tattoos are not allowed in public baths.
Facilities
The hotel includes multiple dining venues and lounges, each designed with natural wood and local character. In the Main Building, you can enjoy mid-century design with wood finishes and wide terraces. The newly built dining area in the West Wing features tables made from Oguni cedar and local art pieces.
You can also take part in the Starry Sky Walk, a unique evening stroll under the stars. The sky feels close at this elevation, and you can spot the Milky Way without needing to leave the hotel grounds.
Activities
Nature surrounds you at Senomoto Kogen Hotel. During the day, walk across the vast plateau and watch cows graze under the open sky. At night, step out in your yukata and look up—stars scatter across the sky, and the quiet wind carries the cool mountain air.
