Overview
Step into a deep forest retreat at Takayama Wanwan Paradise Hotel & Cottages, where tall trees whisper in the breeze and sunlight filters gently through the leaves. Located in the scenic mountains of Hida Takayama, this pet-friendly resort welcomes you and your dog to experience nature at 1,300 meters above sea level. You can breathe in the fresh mountain air, enjoy the sound of flowing rivers, and let your dog explore freely in a space designed entirely for animal lovers. Because the entire resort caters exclusively to dog owners, you can unwind without worrying about others around you.
Accommodation
Choose a room that fits the way you want to travel. The terrace deluxe triple gives you a polished, modern space with a private 10 m² terrace, ideal when you want a little outdoor breathing room.
The Japanese-Western room combines carpet, low beds on flooring, and a spacious tatami area, giving you a softer ryokan-style feel with room to unwind. For more privacy, the private cottage is a detached house with three bedrooms and a living room, so you can settle in without worrying about the rooms around you.
Rooms are prepared for comfortable stays with dogs, and useful dog amenities such as bowls, toilet sheets, cages, towels, and deodorizing spray are available. The key appeal here is not luxury room bathing, but the easy access to private hot spring baths in a separate bath building about 80 m from the main building.
Dining
Dinner is a Japanese kaiseki experience at Restaurant Kacho, where you can dine with your dog. The restaurant uses plenty of natural wood and looks out toward the Okuhida forest and the Kute River, giving the meal a calm mountain atmosphere.
You can choose from three main kaiseki courses. The top Hodaka Kaiseki is the most indulgent option, with Hida beef fillet steak, Hida beef seared sushi, and a hot pot using Hida beef. The Norikura Kaiseki includes Hida beef seared sushi and a Hida beef hot pot, with the rich flavor of the beef as the highlight.
The Miyagawa Kaiseki is a more relaxed standard course built around Japanese cuisine and domestic pork, with the same popular aromatic miso chazuke to finish. Menus are seasonal and may change depending on ingredient availability.
Breakfast is served buffet-style. Regional touches include hoba miso and Hida beef curry, so you can start the morning with both local flavor and familiar comfort.
Onsen and Wellness
The hot spring baths are in a separate bath building about 80 m from the main building. The main bathing experience is private: choose from open-air rock, cypress, or stone baths, then soak in the quiet air after a day in the forest. There is also a private indoor bath with a dog-only bath, so your dog can enjoy a bath nearby in a dedicated tub.
The spring source is Matsukura Yuno-yama Onsen. The water is a simple hot spring, weakly alkaline, hypotonic, and low-temperature. It is listed for conditions such as neuralgia, muscle pain, joint pain, sensitivity to cold, recovery from fatigue, and general health promotion.
The private open-air baths are available in the morning and evening, and reservations are made after arrival.
The private indoor bath with the dog bath is charged separately and includes a dog bathing set with shampoo, rinse, towels, slicker brush, and comb.
Guests with Tattoos
If you have tattoos, you can still enjoy the onsen by using the private open-air or indoor baths. Please check with hotel staff during check-in.
Facilities
The hotel includes a shop where you can find pet supplies, treats, and essentials. Inside the main building, the lounge features a high ceiling and a large chandelier, creating a cozy yet elegant place to unwind. You can also find comfortable seating areas to rest after your walk or enjoy some quiet time with your dog.
Activities
The entire property is like a natural playground for dogs. Walk the forest trail that loops around the resort, or let your dog run free in one of two dog parks. If the weather turns, you can move indoors to a dedicated play space. There’s also a clear stream flowing through the grounds where your dog can splash and cool off in warmer months.
