Overview

Stay on the southern shore of Lake Kawaguchi at Royal Hotel Kawaguchiko, beside the lakeside paths and open spaces of Oike Park. Kawaguchiko Station is around five minutes away by car or complimentary shuttle, or approximately 20 minutes on foot.

This property combines the convenience of a hotel with several features associated with a Japanese inn. Most rooms include tatami flooring, Japanese futon bedding or low beds, while the natural hot spring area offers an indoor granite bath and a garden-style open-air rock bath.

Mount Fuji views depend on your room and the weather, and some rooms do not face the mountain. Even without a Fuji-facing room, you can step outside for lakeside walks, seasonal scenery, and open views from nearby Oike Park.

Accommodation

Most rooms include tatami flooring, and every room has a private bathroom and complimentary Wi-Fi. You can choose between traditional rooms with futon bedding and renovated rooms with low beds placed close to the tatami. Some rooms offer views of Mount Fuji, but the view is not available from every category.

The Japanese-Style Room measures 25 square metres and gives you a classic tatami layout with futons prepared for sleeping. The Superior Japanese-Style Room offers the same amount of space but has a more open design. Renovated in January 2020, this room removed the internal shoji partitions to create a wider and less divided interior.

The Japanese Modern Room measures 23 square metres and combines tatami flooring with two low beds. An additional futon can also be prepared on the tatami. This room works well when you prefer sleeping in a bed while keeping the feel of a Japanese room.

The Superior Twin Room measures 17 square metres and includes two low beds arranged over tatami flooring. The Superior Hollywood Twin measures 22 square metres and places two low beds beside each other, with space for an additional futon. Renovated in January 2024, this category sits on the second floor and does not offer an outside view.

The Superior Quadruple Room occupies the fifth floor and uses Japanese futon bedding. This room reopened after renovation in July 2024. For a larger shared space, the Japanese-Style Family Room measures 51.24 square metres and provides an expansive tatami layout for families or groups travelling together.

Your room includes air conditioning, a television, refrigerator, kettle, Japanese tea set, body soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, razors, towels, yukata, padded tanzen jackets, and indoor slippers.

Dining

Enjoy seasonal Japanese food at Kaiun-tei, the restaurant inside Royal Hotel Kawaguchiko. Dinner follows a set-menu format rather than a buffet, with the contents changing according to the season and ingredient availability.

The dinner focuses on Japanese cooking and presents several carefully prepared dishes as one complete meal. A separate children’s menu is also available. Reserve dinner in advance, particularly when it is not already included in your accommodation plan. Serving times change with the season.

Breakfast is also served at Kaiun-tei. You receive a Japanese set breakfast rather than a Western buffet, with dishes selected according to the season and available ingredients. This gives you a traditional start to the morning before you explore Lake Kawaguchi and the surrounding Fuji Five Lakes area.

Both breakfast and dinner require advance arrangements. Your confirmed meal plan determines which meals form part of your stay.

Onsen and Wellness

Kaiun no Yu uses natural hot spring water connected to the Mount Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi area. The source supplies approximately 270 tonnes of water each day at a temperature of around 40°C.

The water is alkaline and belongs to the chloride spring family. It feels smooth on the skin and helps your body retain warmth after bathing. Traditional bathing indications include neuralgia, muscle discomfort, joint discomfort, sensitivity to cold, fatigue, bruises, sprains, and minor skin injuries.

The baths use added water, heating, and circulation filtration to maintain suitable bathing conditions. This is natural hot spring water, but it is not a fully free-flowing, untreated source.

Separate bathing areas serve men and women. Each side includes a large indoor bath made from granite and a garden-style open-air rock bath. The outdoor water is intentionally kept slightly cooler, allowing you to remain in the bath for longer without feeling overheated.

The open-air bath sits within a sheltered garden rather than facing Mount Fuji or Lake Kawaguchi directly. On quiet evenings, however, you may hear the sound of waves reaching the nearby lakeshore.

You can use the baths repeatedly during your overnight stay. Bathing hours change according to the day, and occasional maintenance closures may apply, so check the current schedule after arrival. Body soap, shampoo, conditioner, and hairdryers are available in the bathing area.

Royal Hotel Kawaguchiko does not have a reservable private hot spring bath or an in-room onsen.

Guests with Tattoos

You can use the shared indoor and open-air baths when you have tattoos. You do not need to conceal your tattoos with covers.

The property does not have a private onsen, so all hot spring bathing takes place in the gender-separated communal areas.

Facilities

Royal Hotel Kawaguchiko includes a front desk, self-check-in system, lobby, restaurant Kaiun-tei, natural hot spring bathing area, changing rooms, and a souvenir shop open from 7:00 to 20:00. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the building. You can also use the complimentary car park, which has space for approximately 60 vehicles, and the reservation-based shuttle connecting the property with Kawaguchiko Station. Reservable rest rooms support the day-use bathing service, although these rooms do not contain private hot spring baths.

Activities

Step outside to explore Oike Park on the southern shore of Lake Kawaguchi. The park gives you lake views to the north and views towards Mount Fuji to the south. Walking paths, benches, and rows of poplar trees make it a pleasant place for a morning walk, photography, or a quiet break beside the water.

Kawaguchiko Herb Hall is also within the surrounding lakeside area. You can browse herb products, try lavender-flavoured treats, join a dried-flower craft activity, or create your own fragrance at the adjoining perfume workshop.

Cycling gives you another way to explore the lake. A marked beginner-friendly route circles Lake Kawaguchi and connects scenic areas, parks, museums, cafés, and viewpoints around the shoreline. Bicycle rental services operate around Kawaguchiko Station and the main sightseeing area.

You can also use the property as a base for visiting the museums, sightseeing facilities, seasonal flower areas, and Mount Fuji viewpoints found across the Fuji Five Lakes region.

Additional Features

Check-in begins at 15:00, and check-out is by 10:00. The complimentary shuttle collects you from Kawaguchiko Station between 15:00 and 18:00 and returns you to the station between 8:30 and 10:00. Reserve the shuttle in advance.
