Overview
Stay at KOKO HOTEL Hida Takayama, around five minutes on foot from JR Takayama Station and the Takayama Nohi Bus Center. The central location lets you explore the historic streets, morning markets, temples, local restaurants, and sake breweries without relying on a car.
The hotel has 139 non-smoking rooms, a natural indoor hot spring bath, a breakfast buffet focused on Hida flavours, free bicycle rental, and practical facilities for a short sightseeing visit or a longer stay.
Design details throughout the building take inspiration from the traditional streets of Takayama. Rooms remain compact and functional, giving you a convenient place to sleep, bathe, and prepare for another day in the city.
Accommodation
Choose from five room categories, including double, queen, twin, and accessible accommodation. Every room has an individual heating and air-conditioning system, private unit bathroom, bathtub, washlet toilet, and Nanoe air purifier.
The Deluxe Single Room and Deluxe Double Room measure 14 square metres and have one 140-centimetre-wide bed. The same layout works for either one or two people, making it a practical choice when you plan to spend most of the day outside.
The Standard Queen Room measures between 13 and 16 square metres. Its 160-centimetre-wide bed gives you more sleeping space while keeping the room compact. This is the hotel’s largest room category by number, with 78 rooms available.
The Standard Twin Room measures between 13 and 16 square metres and includes two 100-centimetre-wide beds. It suits you when you prefer separate beds but do not need a large sitting area.
The Superior Twin Room measures 17.9 square metres and has two 120-centimetre-wide beds. Its wider beds and additional floor space make it the most comfortable standard choice when you travel as a pair with larger luggage.
Two Universal Queen Rooms provide 18.5 square metres of accessible space with one 160-centimetre-wide bed. The entrance and bathroom layout support easier movement when you use a wheelchair or require more room around the bed.
Standard room equipment includes free Wi-Fi, satellite television, refrigerator, electric kettle, mug, tea set, USB outlet, desk, hair dryer, deodorising spray, slippers, nightwear, towels, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.
Dining
Begin the morning with a buffet featuring Japanese and Western dishes alongside regional food from Hida. Breakfast is served from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., with final entry at 9:30 a.m.
Local choices include miso soup made with Takayama koji miso and croquettes prepared with Hida beef. You can also try komodofu, a traditional local tofu dish cooked with vegetables, and nitakumoji, a regional preparation made with pickled vegetables.
Desserts made with Sukuna pumpkin introduce another ingredient associated with the Takayama area. The pumpkin is known for its long shape and naturally sweet flavour.
Rice, bread, salad, soup, hot dishes, and drinks allow you to prepare either a lighter breakfast or a more filling meal before sightseeing.
The hotel does not serve lunch or dinner. Restaurants around Takayama Station and the historic centre offer Hida beef, Takayama ramen, hōba miso, grilled skewers, sushi, and local sake within walking distance.
Onsen and Wellness
The first-floor public bath uses natural water from the Hidamari-no-Yu source. The source produces approximately 485 litres per minute, and the hotel receives the water regularly by tanker.
The water is classified as a weakly alkaline, hypotonic, low-temperature sodium bicarbonate and chloride spring. It has a pH of approximately 8.25 and emerges from the source at around 31°C.
Traditional bathing indications include cuts, sensitivity to cold, peripheral circulation concerns, dry skin, and fatigue associated with travel or long periods of walking.
Separate bathing areas are provided for men and women. You can use the hot spring from 3:00 p.m. until midnight and again from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Lockers with keys are available in the changing rooms. Hair dryers, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and hand soap are provided, but you need to take the towels from your room.
Guests with Tattoos
You can use the shared natural hot spring bath when you have tattoos. You do not need to cover them.
The bathing areas remain communal and separated by gender, so normal Japanese bathing etiquette applies.
Facilities
An amenity buffet near reception lets you collect the personal items you need. The selection includes toothbrushes, razors, hairbrushes, cleansing products, face wash, lotion, moisturiser, body towels, cotton items, hair ties, and green tea bags.
A manga corner and water server give you somewhere to take a short break outside your room. A microwave and ice machines are also available in the shared areas.
Coin-operated washing machines and dryers support longer stays. Vending machines provide drinks, while paid copying, fax, laundry, delivery, and massage services can be arranged.
Free bicycles are available for exploring central Takayama, subject to availability and weather. You can ask about a bicycle at reception before heading out.
Loan items include mobile chargers, humidifiers, trouser presses, desk lamps, irons, HDMI cables, adaptors, extension leads, pillows, card games, umbrellas, wine glasses, and luggage scales. Numbers are limited.
Free Wi-Fi is available in every room and the main shared areas. The hotel is non-smoking, with smoking limited to the designated first-floor room.
Activities
Borrow a bicycle or walk to Takayama’s historic Sanmachi district. The preserved merchant buildings now contain restaurants, cafés, sake breweries, craft stores, and shops selling sweets and local products.
The Miyagawa Morning Market runs beside the river and sells seasonal fruit, vegetables, pickles, snacks, flowers, and handmade goods. A second morning market operates near Takayama Jinya.
Takayama Jinya was an administrative centre during the Edo period. You can walk through its tatami rooms, offices, kitchens, courtyards, and rice storehouses while learning how the Hida region was governed.
Hida Kokubunji Temple is close to the hotel and is known for its three-storey pagoda and old ginkgo tree. The leaves usually turn bright yellow during autumn.
For a longer visit, travel to Hida Folk Village, an open-air museum containing farmhouses and other buildings moved from mountain communities around the region. Craft demonstrations and hands-on workshops introduce you to traditional Hida skills.
The nearby Nohi Bus Center provides services to Shirakawa-go, Hida Furukawa, Kamikochi, and the Okuhida hot spring villages. Seasonal timetables and advance reservations may apply.

JR Takayama Station and the Takayama Nohi Bus Center are each around five minutes away on foot. The historic streets and Miyagawa Morning Market can be reached in approximately ten minutes.
Luggage storage is available on your check-in and check-out days. This allows you to begin sightseeing before receiving your room or continue exploring after departure.
On-site parking is available by telephone reservation. Spaces and vehicle sizes are limited, and you may need to use a nearby paid car park when the hotel parking area is full.
