Overview
Stay directly opposite Shimoyoshida Station at Oyado Sakuragawa, a private three-storey lodge in Fujiyoshida. Arakurayama Sengen Park and Chureito Pagoda are around five minutes away on foot, placing one of the area’s best-known Mt. Fuji viewpoints within easy reach.
You have private use of approximately 115 square metres across three floors, with four sleeping spaces, a large living and dining area, a full kitchen, and a private lava-rock bath. The layout works particularly well when you want to stay together with family or friends while keeping separate bedrooms.
You can see part of Mt. Fuji from a third-floor window, although the view is not close or uninterrupted. The outlook also includes Arakurayama, Shimoyoshida Station, and the trains passing directly in front of the lodge.
Accommodation
Four sleeping areas give you a choice of Simmons beds and Japanese futon bedding. Each room takes inspiration from Princess Sakuya, the mountains around Fujiyoshida, and the stories connected to nearby Arakurayama Sengen Shrine.
Gekko-no-Ma has two 120-centimetre-wide Simmons semi-double beds. Soft lighting reflects the themes of moonlight and Princess Sakuya, while a business desk, chair, and foot massager give you space to work or rest after sightseeing.
Hanamai-no-Ma has one 160-centimetre-wide Simmons bed. Stained glass featuring Princess Sakuya and falling flower petals gives the room its main decorative feature. Wide windows look toward Arakurayama and Shimoyoshida Station.
Asagasumi-no-Ma is a Japanese-style bedroom with three futon sets. In the morning, you can see the light reach the mountains beyond the lodge as the landscape becomes brighter.
A second Japanese room sits beside the living area on the third floor. Shoji screens allow you to close it off as a private bedroom, where three additional futons can be prepared. During the day, you can leave the screens open and use the tatami area as part of the shared living space.
The lodge can accommodate up to 12 people, although the more comfortable arrangement for an all-adult stay is up to nine. All indoor areas are non-smoking, and pets are not accepted.
Dining
Oyado Sakuragawa does not provide breakfast or dinner. Instead, the third-floor kitchen gives you the freedom to prepare meals and drinks during your stay.
The kitchen includes an IH hob, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, electric kettle, espresso machine, cooking utensils, plates, glasses, and cutlery. The open living and dining area gives you plenty of room to eat together.
A convenience store is around one minute away on foot, while a supermarket is approximately 13 minutes away. You can buy ingredients, drinks, snacks, and breakfast items without travelling far from the lodge.
For an evening out, Nishiura Gourmet Street is within a ten-minute walk. This dining district is known for its small restaurants, bars, and Showa-era streetscape. Catering from selected local restaurants can also be arranged in advance.
Barbecues are not permitted at the property.
Onsen and Wellness
Sakuragawa-no-Yu is a large private artificial mineral bath on the first floor. It is not a natural hot spring, but you can use it throughout your stay without sharing the bathing area.
The bath combines Japanese cypress with natural lava rock. It is large enough for two or three adults to bathe together comfortably, making it suitable for couples, families, and groups.
The water uses Komeiseki, a natural mineral extracted from the Abe Mine in Okayama. The mineral has received quasi-drug approval from Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
The water is colourless and odourless, with a smooth feel and good heat retention. Its recognised uses include support for fatigue recovery, neuralgia, rheumatic discomfort, stiff shoulders, lower-back discomfort, and sensitivity to cold.
Bath towels, face towels, shampoo, conditioner, body soap, a washbasin, and a hair dryer are provided beside the bath. A separate shower room with chairs is available on the third floor, making it easier when several people need to wash or prepare at the same time.
Guests with Tattoos
You can use Sakuragawa-no-Yu freely when you have tattoos. The entire lodge and bathing area belong exclusively to your travelling party, so you do not enter a public or shared bath.
The bath remains available throughout your stay, allowing you to bathe privately at the time that suits you.
Facilities
The third-floor penthouse brings the main shared spaces together. You can cook in the full kitchen, eat around the dining table, relax in the large living area, or close the shoji screens when you want to use the adjoining tatami room as a bedroom.
Underfloor heating helps keep the upper floor comfortable during the colder months. A large television, espresso machine, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, kettle, and complete set of basic cooking and dining equipment support both short visits and longer stays.
A fully automatic washer and dryer allows you to clean clothing, towels, or hiking equipment during a multi-night visit. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the lodge.
Baby guards and a baby bath can be provided when you travel with an infant. Children’s chairs and simple toys are also available.
The property has no indoor or outdoor smoking area. Free private parking is available behind the building for up to two standard-sized vehicles.
Activities
Walk to Arakurayama Sengen Park and Chureito Pagoda in around five minutes. The viewpoint brings together the five-storey pagoda, Fujiyoshida, and Mt. Fuji, with cherry blossoms in spring and colourful leaves in autumn.
The lodge also marks the starting point for several mapped walking and trekking routes. The shorter Arakurayama course takes around one hour and ten minutes for a round trip and passes Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine and Chureito Pagoda.
A longer route continues across Arakurayama toward Shimoyama and Mount Tenjo. You can combine the walk with the Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway and a sightseeing cruise on Lake Kawaguchi.
More demanding routes lead toward Mitsutoge, Mount Shakushi, Oshino Hakkai, and Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine. During the official climbing season, experienced hikers can also use the lodge as a starting point for the Yoshida Trail on Mt. Fuji.
Honmachi Street is around five minutes away on foot and gives you one of Fujiyoshida’s best-known street views of Mt. Fuji. You can also reach the Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway, Lake Kawaguchi, Fuji-Q Highland, Oshino Hakkai, and the wider Fuji Five Lakes area by train, bus, or car.
Additional Features
Shimoyoshida Station stands directly in front of the lodge, giving you straightforward rail access to Kawaguchiko, Fuji-Q Highland, and other parts of the Fuji Five Lakes area. You can also watch trains and the station’s Blue Train Terrace from the third-floor windows.
Check-in begins at 3:00 p.m., and check-out is by 10:00 a.m. Late check-out is not available.
Oyado Sakuragawa operates as a private, self-contained stay rather than a staffed ryokan. Paid coin lockers are available on the first floor when you need to store luggage outside your accommodation time.
Parties are not permitted, and you need to keep conversations quiet after 8:00 p.m. This helps protect the residential atmosphere around the property.
