Overview

WPÜ Hakone gives you a stylish and easygoing stay in Gora, one of Hakone’s best-connected mountain areas. Gora sits about 550 meters above sea level and marks the final stop of the Hakone Tozan Railway, so you have quick access to trains, cable cars, museums, onsen sights, and the wider Hakone route.

The property has a relaxed boutique-hotel feel rather than a formal ryokan style. You can stay in a private room, share a larger room with friends or family, or choose a dormitory bed for a simple solo trip. After exploring Hakone, you can return for milky-white hot spring bathing, dinner and drinks at the dining space, or a quiet moment in the community area.

Accommodation

WPÜ Hakone offers twin rooms, double rooms, extra-bed twin rooms, quad rooms, a suite, a family room, and mixed dormitory beds. The rooms use clean white tones, wood details, carpeted floors, and Simmons beds, creating a simple and comfortable base for your Hakone stay.

The twin rooms and extra-bed twin rooms give you more space, with a desk, chair, sofa, and private bath and toilet. The extra-bed twin room can use the sofa as an additional bed, making it useful when you travel with one more person. The quad room has bunk-style beds, a private bath and toilet, and enough space for friends or family.

The suite is the largest room, with a loft-style layout designed for group stays. It includes several beds and a private bath and toilet, making it the strongest choice when you want to stay together in one room. The family room has bunk beds and shared bathroom facilities, while the mixed dormitory gives solo travelers a practical shared-room option with access to the public bath and shared toilets.

The compact double room also uses shared bathroom facilities and works well when you want a simple private sleeping space. Room equipment depends on the room type, but you can expect useful basics such as air conditioning, a refrigerator, electric kettle, TV in private rooms, towels, yukata, slippers, and bath amenities where applicable. All rooms are non-smoking.

Dining

WPÜ Dining Hakone brings you an easy dining experience on the first floor, with breakfast in the morning, dinner from the early evening, and drinks at the bar. The style feels casual and social, so it suits you well when you want good food without the strict formality of a traditional ryokan meal.

Dinner follows a local-first approach, using ingredients such as Shonan pork from Kanagawa, Oishi-dori chicken from Shizuoka, and vegetables from Odawara. The menu changes with the season, giving you dishes that reflect the Hakone and Gora area rather than a standard hotel dinner.

Breakfast is a Western-style buffet served in a bright dining room. You can start the day with salads, appetizers, soup, fresh bread, egg dishes, desserts, and drinks such as coffee, milk, and juice. The bar also offers wines, seasonal original cocktails, craft beers from Japan and abroad, and drinks that pair well with the dinner menu.

Onsen and Wellness

WPÜ Hakone has shared public hot spring baths separated for men and women. The bath uses Hakone’s milky-white hot spring water, giving you a classic Gora onsen experience after sightseeing, hiking, or a long travel day.

The hot spring quality is acidic sodium-calcium chloride-sulfate spring water, formerly known as acidic gypsum salt spring. It is classified as acidic, hypotonic, and high-temperature spring water. The water is associated with support for atopic dermatitis, eczema, impaired glucose tolerance, superficial suppurative skin conditions, cuts, peripheral circulation concerns, cold sensitivity, depression, and dry skin.

The public bath has a small, calm scale, with capacity for six people in the men’s bath and six people in the women’s bath. Bathing hours are from 6:30 to 9:30 in the morning and from 15:00 to 23:00. The bath area also includes hair care amenities by Malin+Goetz, and you can wear the property’s original hemp yukata after your soak.

Guests with Tattoos

WPÜ Hakone allows tattoos in the shared public onsen area. The baths are separated for men and women and are not available for private use.

Facilities

WPÜ Hakone has a first-floor dining and bar space, public hot spring baths, a community space, a mini bar selection in the rooms, parking, a smoking room on the first floor, luggage storage on the day of check-in and check-out, and Wi-Fi throughout the property.

The community space gives you a casual place to work, eat, or relax between outings. The dining area works from morning through evening, shifting from breakfast to dinner and bar time. Parking is available on a first-come basis, and nearby paid parking can be used when the property parking is full.

Activities

WPÜ Hakone places you right by Gora Station, so it is easy to plan days around Hakone’s train, cable car, and ropeway routes. You can visit the Hakone Open-Air Museum, spend time at Gora Park, continue toward Owakudani, or travel onward to Lake Ashi and Hakone Shrine.

Art lovers can add the Hakone Museum of Art, the Pola Museum of Art, or the Hakone Venetian Glass Museum to the day. If you prefer classic Hakone scenery, the route toward Owakudani and Lake Ashi gives you volcanic landscapes, mountain views, and lakeside sightseeing before returning to Gora for the evening.

Additional Features

WPÜ Hakone is a good choice when you want a casual Hakone stay with easy station access, public hot spring baths, private and shared room options, breakfast, dinner, a bar, and a relaxed social atmosphere. Check-in starts at 15:00, and check-in is available until 22:00. The entrance is locked after 23:00, so late arrivals should be arranged in advance.

You also have all non-smoking rooms, a first-floor smoking room, luggage storage, public baths for men and women, parking on a first-come basis, and dormitory stays for ages 16 and above. Children aged 3 and under may share a bed in private rooms under the property’s child policy, while children aged 4 and above are treated as adults for room stays.
