Overview
Yugawara Fuga gives you an adult-focused ryokan stay in Yugawara Onsen, surrounded by the mountains, sea air, history, and quiet beauty of Kanagawa’s hot spring region. This is a place to slow down and enjoy time without noise or distraction. The rooms do not have televisions, so you can read, talk, rest, soak, and reconnect with your own pace.
The ryokan is designed for junior high school age and older, making it a calm choice for couples, solo travelers, and adults who want a quieter hot spring stay. You can enjoy teppan-style course dining, soft Yugawara Onsen water, private open-air bath options, a cafe and library, garden views, and spaces that invite you to pause rather than rush.
Accommodation
Rooms at Yugawara Fuga are designed around quiet time. You will not find a television in the room, which helps create a more restful stay. Instead, you can enjoy tatami textures, low lighting, warm Japanese design, and a room style that matches the way you want to rest.
The Suite Room with Open-Air Hot Spring Bath measures 95 square meters and gives you the most private hot spring experience. It has an indoor bath and a source-flowing open-air hot spring bath, making it the best choice when you want to enjoy Yugawara Onsen in your own space. The Deluxe Room with Semi-Open-Air Hot Spring Bath measures 80 square meters and gives you a spacious room with an indoor bath and semi-open-air hot spring bath. The Japanese Room with Semi-Open-Air Hot Spring Bath has a 10-tatami layout, an indoor bath, and a semi-open-air hot spring bath for a more traditional stay.
The Japanese Twin Room with Bath measures 60 square meters and gives you twin beds in a Japanese-style setting, with an indoor bath. The Hollywood Twin Room with Bath measures 48 square meters and places the beds side by side for a simple, comfortable layout. The Japanese Room with Bath has a 10-tatami layout and an indoor bath, while the King Bed Room with Bath and Workspace measures 30 square meters and gives you a king bed plus a desk area for reading, writing, or light work.
Rooms include Wi-Fi, electric kettle, tea set, refrigerator, hair dryer, air purifier, washlet toilet, safe, air conditioning, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, body soap, face wash, toothbrush set, razor, hairbrush, towels, bath towels, yukata, and slippers.
Dining
Dinner at Yugawara Fuga is served as a Japanese-Western teppan course meal. The open kitchen adds a sense of movement to the evening, with chefs preparing key dishes on the teppan so you can enjoy the sound, aroma, and warmth of the cooking as part of the meal.
You can choose from four dinner courses depending on the plan. Kenran is the most luxurious course and uses higher-grade ingredients for a special evening. Kiwami focuses on selected ingredients and teppan-grilled meat. Miyabi is the standard course, with both meat and seafood as main dishes. Kaze is a lighter course with smaller portions, suited to a more casual dinner or an evening where you want to enjoy drinks with your meal.
The menu changes with the season and may include dishes such as fresh seafood, local vegetables, domestic beef or pork, soup, pasta or risotto-style rice dishes, and dessert. The cooking style does not stay limited to one tradition, so you can enjoy a creative meal that brings together Japanese and Western flavors.
Breakfast is a gentle Japanese breakfast served while you look toward the garden. The meal uses seasonal ingredients and may include dishes such as marinated vegetables, local chicken, fish, pork, miso soup, multigrain rice, yogurt, and other small morning dishes. Food allergy support is limited, and meals may not be served when an allergy carries a high risk of reaction.
Onsen and Wellness
Yugawara Fuga uses Yugawara Onsen, a historic hot spring known for clear, soft water with a slight salt content. The water warms the body well and has a smooth feel on the skin, which is why it is often enjoyed as a beauty bath.
The shared large public bath, Fuga no Yu, has an indoor bath and an open-air bath. The indoor bath uses source-flowing hot spring water, while the open-air bath gives you a more open bathing experience. The public bath is open from 15:00 to 24:00 and from 6:00 to 9:00.
You can also reserve one of two private open-air baths, Konpeki or Moegi. These baths are useful when you want a quieter soak with more privacy. Each session lasts 45 minutes and is available for an additional fee. The private baths are open from 15:00 to 22:00 and from 6:00 to 8:00, but they may close during bad weather.
The spring quality is sodium-calcium chloride sulfate spring water, classified as weakly alkaline, hypotonic, and high temperature. The pH is 8.5, and the source temperature is listed at 60 to 90°C. The listed benefits include relief for nerve pain, muscle pain, joint pain, frozen shoulder, bruises, sprains, sensitivity to cold, fatigue recovery, cuts, burns, chronic skin concerns, and general wellness.
Guests with Tattoos
Yugawara Fuga allows you to use the public bath, open-air bath, and sauna-style bathing areas when your tattoos can be fully covered with up to two designated cover seals. The cover seals measure 10 cm by 15 cm and can be purchased at the front desk. If your tattoos cannot be fully covered with the seals, use a room with an in-room hot spring bath or reserve one of the private open-air baths instead.
Facilities
Yugawara Fuga keeps the stay quiet and thoughtful, with spaces made for reading, reflection, and slow conversation. Cafe and Library Peony has books ranging from novels to nostalgic comics, along with garden views and free drinks during set hours. In the afternoon, you can also enjoy free light food for a short time, making arrival feel relaxed and welcoming.
The Mini Library adds a more personal touch, with books, old-style games, and a notebook where you can write down memories from your stay. The Ukiyo-e Corridor displays works by Utagawa Hiroshige along the passage between buildings, with decorative ranma transoms that add a traditional architectural detail to the walk. These spaces give the ryokan more character without making it feel busy.
The ryokan also has free Wi-Fi, a large public bath, private open-air baths, restaurant dining, free parking, and electric vehicle charging. The property sits on a hill and has stairs and level changes throughout the building, so it is not a good fit if you need step-free movement or wheelchair support.
Activities
Yugawara Fuga is well placed for slow travel around Yugawara. You can visit Gosho Shrine, known for its large sacred trees and long local history, or stop by Chibori Yugawara Sweets Factory for sweets, shopping, and hands-on experiences. Makuyama Park is especially beautiful from early February to mid-March, when thousands of plum trees bloom across the hillside.
You can also explore Yugawara’s hot spring town, local art spots, mountain paths, and coastal areas. The stay works best when you do not overplan. Spend the morning in the bath, read in the library, take a short outing, return for dinner, and end the night with another quiet soak.
