Overview
Hotel Cetus Royal gives you an easy seaside stay in Atagawa Onsen, facing Atagawa YOU Yu Beach and the Pacific Ocean. You stay about five minutes on foot from Izu-Atagawa Station, with the beach just a short walk away, so the whole trip feels simple from arrival to checkout.
This oceanfront hot spring hotel is made for sea views, open-air bathing, and relaxed time in Izu. Every room faces the ocean, and from the windows you can look toward Izu Oshima and the Izu Islands. You can soak in natural hot spring water from the hotel’s own sources, enjoy buffet meals with Izu flavors, use the year-round dome pool, or take a slow walk through Atagawa’s hot spring town.
Accommodation
Hotel Cetus Royal has 48 rooms, and every room faces the ocean. You can open the window to see the sea in front of you, listen to the waves, and watch the sunrise over the horizon. The rooms keep a simple Japanese resort style, with tatami space, calm interiors, and enough room to settle in without feeling crowded.
The Japanese-style rooms measure 10 to 12.5 tatami mats and give you a classic ryokan-style stay with ocean views. You can sit by the window, enjoy the view of Izu Oshima, and sleep on futon bedding at your own pace. The hotel uses a self-service futon style in Japanese rooms, so you can lay out your bedding whenever you want to rest.
The Japanese-Western rooms include a twin bedroom with two single beds and a 12.5-tatami Japanese space. These rooms are corner rooms, so the view feels wider and more open. They work well when you want both beds and tatami, especially for a family trip or a relaxed stay with more room to sit together.
The Japanese-Western room with source-fed open-air bath gives you the most private bathing experience at the hotel. This 12.5-tatami room has its own free-flowing hot spring open-air bath, so you can soak whenever you like while enjoying the sound of the waves and the morning light over the sea. This room is limited to one room and can only be booked by phone.
Rooms include free Wi-Fi, TV, phone, kettle, tea set, refrigerator, hair dryer, bath, washlet toilet, body soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush set, razor, brush, towels, bath towels, samue-style roomwear, and slippers. You can also borrow items such as a DVD player, iron, trouser press, deodorizing spray, humidifier, desk lamp, charger, blanket, sewing kit, thermometer, nail clippers, disposable chopsticks, and games, depending on availability.
Dining
Dining at Hotel Cetus Royal is casual and generous, with buffet-style meals built around Izu ingredients and local flavors. Dinner is a Japanese and Western buffet with seasonal local ingredients, regional dishes, and seafood from the area. Some plans include main dishes such as abalone, simmered kinmedai, or Ise lobster, along with buffet items and a 90-minute all-you-can-drink service.
The drink corner includes beer, highballs, chuhai, whisky, plum wine, sake, red and white wine, juice, oolong tea, coffee, and tea, depending on the plan and day. This makes dinner feel relaxed and easy, especially when you want to enjoy a full meal without leaving the hotel.
Breakfast is a Japanese and Western buffet with items such as grilled fish, yudofu, simmered dishes, bread, and seasonal dishes. Breakfast is usually served from 7:30 to 9:00, with final entry at 8:30. Depending on the day and booking situation, breakfast may change to a Japanese set meal.
The hotel also adds a few generous touches around mealtimes. You can enjoy a free happy hour from 15:00 to 17:30 with alcohol, soft drinks, and snacks, plus warm oden during the same time. Later in the evening, free yonaki udon is served from 21:00 to 23:00, limited to one bowl per person and available while supplies last.
Onsen and Wellness
The hot spring experience at Hotel Cetus Royal is one of its strongest features. The hotel has its own hot spring sources, and you can enjoy both ocean-view public baths and large open-air baths surrounded by nature.
The large public baths, Hikoboshi no Yu for men and Orihime no Yu for women, look out over Sagami Bay and the Izu Islands. These baths use natural hot spring water from the Shimami source and include a sauna in each bathing area. The public baths are open from 15:00 to 24:00 and from 6:00 to 9:00. The sauna is open only at night, from 15:00 to 24:00.
The outdoor bath area is one of the most memorable parts of the stay. Tsukiakari no Yu and Hoshiakari no Yu are large open-air baths set away from the main building, giving you a more open and natural bathing experience. Tsukiakari no Yu is used by women from 16:00 to 24:00 and by men the next morning from 6:00 to 9:00. Hoshiakari no Yu is used by men from 16:00 to 24:00 and by women the next morning from 6:00 to 9:00.
From 20:00 to 24:00, the large outdoor baths can also be used as private open-air baths by reservation at the front desk. Each private session is 30 minutes. This gives you a more personal way to enjoy one of Izu’s large outdoor bath spaces under the night sky.
From October 15, 2025, the hotel also offers two private family baths, Nozomi no Yu and Senri no Yu. These private baths are available in 45-minute sessions from 16:30 to 22:30, with reservations accepted at the front desk after check-in. Advance reservations by phone or email are not accepted.
The outdoor baths use the Higuchi source, a sodium chloride and sulfate hot spring with a pH of 9.0 and a source temperature of 95.4°C. The listed benefits include relief for nerve pain, joint pain, muscle pain, frozen shoulder, bruises, sprains, chronic digestive concerns, hemorrhoids, fatigue recovery, cuts, burns, chronic skin concerns, and general wellness. The ocean-view public baths use the Shimami source, also a sodium chloride and sulfate hot spring, with listed benefits that include support for rheumatic concerns, movement-related discomfort, wounds, chronic eczema, and circulation-related concerns.
Guests with Tattoos
For the large hot spring baths, you can enter only when your tattoo can be fully covered with one 8 cm by 10 cm cover seal. You need to bring the cover seal yourself. If your tattoo cannot be fully covered with one seal, you cannot use the large public baths.
The pool does not allow tattoos. If tattoos are visible in the pool area, you cannot use the facility.
Facilities
Hotel Cetus Royal gives you more than a room and a bath, but the experience still feels easy and casual. You can swim in the dome pool Blue Whale throughout the year, enjoy the night pool atmosphere from 20:00 to 24:00, relax in the lobby, browse the shop for Izu souvenirs and drinks, or spend the evening with karaoke, table tennis, mini billiards, manga, and massage chairs.
The hotel also offers several small services that make the stay feel generous. You can choose from three pillow types, enjoy coffee service from afternoon to late night and again in the morning, use free Wi-Fi, borrow games and useful room items, and use the laundry area when needed. The hotel also has a kids’ corner, computer and printer corner, rental bicycles in limited numbers, and a microwave for simple use such as warming baby milk.
The free bar for staying customers is open from 19:30 to 23:00, with last order at 22:30. The happy hour, warm oden, coffee service, and late-night udon add value to the stay without making the hotel feel overly formal.
