Overview
Hotel Laforet Shuzenji brings hot spring bathing, outdoor recreation, and flexible accommodation together in one of Izu’s largest forest resorts. Set within the expansive Laforet Resort Shuzenji, the hotel is surrounded by around 500,000 tsubo—approximately 165 hectares—of woodland and mountain scenery. It offers a refreshing change of pace without limiting you to a quiet retreat.
Whether you are planning time as a couple, traveling with children or friends, or bringing your dog, the resort gives you room to shape the trip around your interests. Private hot spring rooms, large cottages, golf, tennis, a zipline, indoor sports, BBQ dining, and a large onsen make it easy to combine relaxation with active days outdoors.
Accommodation
Accommodation is spread across several buildings and cottages, allowing you to choose the level of space, privacy, and style that suits your trip.
For a more refined onsen experience, Sanshisuimei offers Japanese-Western rooms with private open-air baths supplied with Shuzenji Onsen water. Many rooms include a terrace facing Mount Fuji or the forests of the Amagi Mountains. Room sizes range from 44㎡ to 59㎡, with accessible and dog-friendly options also available.
The standard hotel rooms provide comfortable Western-style accommodation surrounded by greenery. Rooms measure 36㎡ for two or three people, while the 59㎡ special rooms include a separate living area and views toward the golf course.
For more space, the Center House includes two six-tatami rooms and a shared living area within a 69㎡ layout. It accommodates four to six people, making it a practical choice when you travel with children or friends.
The cottages offer layouts for two to twelve people. Larger options include living rooms, Japanese-style sleeping areas, and, in selected cottages, in-room karaoke. Dedicated dog cottages include cages and gates, while Sanshisuimei also offers dog-friendly rooms with pet amenities, paw-washing showers, and private hot spring baths.
Smoking rules differ by building. Sanshisuimei and the standard hotel rooms are non-smoking, while the Center House and some cottage categories permit smoking. Check the selected room details carefully when booking.
Dining
Dining FUJI creates a warm setting for meals with high ceilings, rich wood interiors, and views toward Mount Fuji. The kitchen highlights ingredients from Izu’s mountains and coast, giving each meal a clear connection to the region.
Breakfast is served as a buffet from 7:00 to 9:15, offering an easy start before golf, sightseeing, or a day of activities. Lunch is available from 11:00 to 13:30, while dinner runs from 17:30 to 21:00. Dinner choices include course meals, with buffet service offered during selected periods. Advance reservations are recommended, especially on busy dates.
For an outdoor meal, the resort’s BBQ Garden offers a casual alternative surrounded by the Izu landscape. Staff can offer guidance on grilling and serving, making it easy to enjoy the experience without preparing everything yourself.
Onsen and Wellness
The large hot spring facility Mori no Yu features an indoor bath overlooking the Amagi Mountains, an open-air bath, and a sauna. The water comes from Shuzenji Onsen, one of the Izu Peninsula’s best-known historic hot spring areas.
The spring is an alkaline simple hot spring with clear water. The official information lists benefits that include recovery from fatigue and relief for nerve pain, joint discomfort, stiff shoulders, and muscle concerns. The baths use temperature-controlled and circulated hot spring water rather than a fully free-flowing system.
If you prefer complete privacy, every Sanshisuimei room includes its own open-air hot spring bath. You can soak whenever it suits you while looking toward Mount Fuji or the surrounding forest, depending on the building and room category.
The resort does not offer a reservable shared family bath or private public bath. For private bathing, choose a Sanshisuimei room with an in-room open-air bath.
Tattoos
You may use Mori no Yu when your tattoos can be fully covered by no more than two cover stickers measuring 8 cm × 10 cm each. Contact the front desk for guidance before entering the bath. Tattoos that cannot be covered within this limit are not permitted in the shared bathing area.
A Sanshisuimei room provides the most convenient alternative, as you can enjoy Shuzenji Onsen in your own private open-air bath.
Facilities
The wider Laforet Resort Shuzenji grounds give you access to an 18-hole golf course, 12 tennis courts with evening lighting, and a gymnasium of around 1,000㎡ for basketball, volleyball, badminton, and table tennis. There is no standard fitness gym, so the earlier reference to a gym closure should be removed.
You can also enjoy ShuzenZIP, a forest zipline with a course of around 365 metres, along with disc golf, a dog run, a children’s room, and the outdoor Fuwafuwa Dome play area. Some activities require advance booking, meet specific height or weight conditions, or operate according to the weather and season.
The shop in the main hotel area sells local souvenirs and everyday items from 8:00 to 21:00. Coin-operated washing machines and dryers are available behind Mori no Yu 24 hours a day. The resort also provides meeting rooms, banquet halls, vending machines, free parking, and transport between selected areas of the large grounds on operating days.
Activities
Days can begin with a quiet walk through the forest, followed by golf, tennis, table tennis, or a flight over the trees on ShuzenZIP. The resort’s size makes it possible to spend much of the trip on the grounds, moving between outdoor activities, dining, and the hot spring.
Beyond the resort, Shuzenji gives you access to temple streets, bamboo paths, historic hot spring scenery, and drives through central Izu. Seasonal trips can include early cherry blossoms, autumn foliage, mountain viewpoints, and local wasabi country.
