Overview

ISHINOYA Atami gives you a high-floor ryokan-style resort stay above the city of Atami. You arrive at the Pasania Hotel building and head to the 27th floor, where the view opens out toward the sea, sky, and Atami town below. The setting feels removed from the movement of the city, while Atami Station remains close enough for an easy arrival by taxi or reserved shuttle.

You come here for ocean views, private hot spring bathing, carefully designed rooms, seasonal dining, and time that feels slower than a standard hotel stay. All rooms now face the ocean, so the sea becomes part of your stay from the moment you enter your room. Some rooms also give you views of the Atami Sea Fireworks Festival, making the height of the building one of the property’s strongest features.

ISHINOYA Atami works well when you want more space and privacy than a typical city hotel. You can soak in your own room bath, spend time in shared lounges across the floors, enjoy the semi-open-air large bath, book the private bath, or choose one of the top-floor suites with a private terrace, open-air bath, and sauna.

Accommodation

You can choose from 18 guest rooms and 4 top-floor ISHINOYA suites. The guest rooms include open-air bath junior suites, sauna and hot spring junior suites, Japanese semi-suites with hot spring baths, and superior modern twin rooms with open-air baths. Each guest room has hot spring water drawn into the room, so you can enjoy bathing in a private space without going to the shared bath area.

The open-air bath junior suite sits on the 27th floor and gives you 50 square meters of indoor space plus a private terrace. You have four Simmons beds, an open-air hot spring bath, a coffee machine, refrigerator, TV, air purifier, safe, and free Wi-Fi. From the terrace and bath, you look out across the sea, the trees below, and the Atami townscape.

The sauna and hot spring junior suite was renewed in 2023 and sits on the 24th and 25th floors. This room gives you 63 to 67 square meters of space, two Simmons beds, a private hot spring bath, and an in-room sauna for one to two people. The sauna reaches up to 90°C, and the room also includes a cold-water bath, infinity chair, and the option to open the window for fresh-air cooling.

The Japanese semi-suite with hot spring bath sits on the 26th floor and gives you 65 square meters of space. It combines a Japanese room, a bedroom with two Simmons beds, a view bath, and ocean views from the entrance-style window area. This room works well when you want Japanese design, a more spacious layout, and a private hot spring bath without choosing a full suite.

The superior modern twin with open-air bath sits on the 27th floor and gives you 46 to 49 square meters of indoor space plus a private terrace. You have two Simmons beds, a raised relaxing area, an open-air hot spring bath, and ocean views. It feels bright and open, with enough space to rest comfortably after bathing or sightseeing.

For a more exclusive stay, the four ISHINOYA suites sit on the top floor and each has 136 square meters of space. The suites are named MON, SAI, SEN, and TAN, each with a different design concept. Every suite includes a living and dining area that works for meals or work, a private open-air hot spring bath, private terrace, room sauna, outdoor daybed, massage chair, coffee machine, air purifier, face steamer, Simmons beds, and free Wi-Fi. The suite saunas fit three to four people, reach up to 90°C, and include a cold-water bath with terrace space for cooling down outside.

Dining

Dining at ISHINOYA Atami centers on ISHINOYA Kaiseki, a Japanese-Western creative course meal that brings together seasonal ingredients and local flavors from Atami and Shizuoka. You dine at GOKAN, where suite stays use private dining rooms and guest room stays use semi-private dining spaces. This gives your meal a calm setting and lets you focus on the food and conversation without a busy restaurant atmosphere.

The dinner menu changes with the season. The summer menu from June 1 includes dishes such as tomato tofu with snow crab, fried flatfish, fried river shrimp, pike conger somen with plum jelly, seasonal sashimi from Suruga Bay, horse mackerel with aromatic vegetables, wagyu with summer vegetables, summer grunt sushi, steamed kinmedai with yam, rice cooked with fresh whitebait from a contracted Numazu farm, red miso soup, and Atami lemon mousse with seasonal fruit. Ingredients may change depending on sourcing, so each meal reflects the season and the day’s availability.

You can also add special dishes by advance reservation. Options include upgrading breakfast dried fish to kinmedai, kinmedai simmered in sauce for dinner, Shizuoka wagyu steak, Shizuoka wagyu sukiyaki, sashimi platter, abalone sashimi, abalone steak, whole cake, and seasonal fruit platter. These additions need to be requested at least one week before your stay, making them a good choice for birthdays, anniversaries, or a more indulgent dinner.

Onsen and Wellness

The hot spring experience at ISHINOYA Atami combines private in-room bathing with shared and reservable bath options. The spring quality is sodium-calcium chloride hot spring water, a classic Atami spring type known for warming the body. You can enjoy the water in your room, in the semi-open-air large bath, or in the reservable private bath.

The semi-open-air bath, Tenku, opens from 3:00 PM to midnight and again from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM. The bath and sauna areas rotate between men and women, so you can enjoy different settings depending on timing. From the bath, you can take in trees, sea views, and the feeling of being high above Atami while soaking in warm spring water.

The private bath, Ao, gives you a more personal bathing option with the warmth and scent of hinoki. It is available by same-day reservation from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with a 45-minute use time for an added fee. This bath works well when you want a quiet soak with someone close to you or when you prefer not to use the shared bath area.

If you choose a sauna room or suite, you can enjoy your own sauna cycle inside your room. The sauna and hot spring junior suite gives you a private sauna, hot spring bath, cold-water bath, and infinity chair. The top-floor suites add a larger private sauna, cold-water bath, open-air bath, terrace, and outdoor daybed, so you can move between heat, cold water, fresh air, and rest without leaving your room.

Guests with tattoos

If you have tattoos, the most comfortable choice is a room with a private hot spring bath or a suite with a private open-air bath and sauna. You can also book the private bath Ao for a 45-minute session. These options let you enjoy Atami hot spring water in a private space without relying on the shared large bath.

Facilities

ISHINOYA Atami gives you several shared spaces across the building, each designed for a different mood. You can spend quiet time in the Library Lounge on the 24th floor, relax barefoot in the Tatami Lounge on the 26th floor, use the Active Lounge on the 25th floor with darts and putter golf, or look out toward the sea from the Terrace Lounge on the 28th floor. The rooftop Starry Sky Terrace adds another open-air space, with yoga mats available so you can stretch or refresh while looking toward the ocean on clear days.

The property also includes dining venue GOKAN, private dining rooms for suites, semi-private dining for guest rooms, conference rooms, meeting rooms, a semi-open-air large bath, sauna, private bath, free Wi-Fi, and outside smoking areas since all rooms are non-smoking. Room facilities may include hot spring baths, open-air baths, in-room saunas, coffee machines, refrigerators, TVs, air purifiers, safes, bathrobes in selected rooms, yukata, relax wear, toiletries, skincare items, and bath items depending on room type.

A free shuttle runs from Atami Station with advance reservation by the day before. Suite room shuttle times start from 2:00 PM and run through 5:00 PM, while guest room shuttle times start from 2:30 PM and run through 4:30 PM. If you arrive by taxi, the ride from Atami Station takes about 10 minutes, and it helps to tell the driver to go to the 27th floor of the Pasania Hotel building because the hotel does not connect from the first floor of Pasania.

Activities

You can spend much of your stay inside the property without feeling the need to rush outside. Soak in your room bath, rest in the lounges, read in the Library Lounge, stretch on the rooftop terrace, try the Active Lounge, enjoy dinner at GOKAN, and return to the bath or sauna before sleep. If your stay matches an Atami Sea Fireworks Festival date, some rooms and suite terraces let you watch the fireworks from above the city and bay.

When you want to explore, ISHINOYA Atami places you close to several of Atami’s main sights by car or taxi. MOA Museum of Art is about 3 minutes away by car or around 15 minutes on foot, Izusan Shrine is about 5 minutes away by car, Atami Station’s Heiwa-dori Shopping Street is about 10 minutes away by car, Atami Ropeway is about 15 minutes away by car, Atami Castle is about 20 minutes away by car, and Kiunkaku is about 10 minutes away by car.

Additional Features

ISHINOYA Atami is located at 1739-35 Atami, Atami City, Shizuoka, inside the Pasania Hotel building on the 27th floor. Check-in usually starts from 3:00 PM, while check-out varies by room type, with several rooms and suites listed at 11:00 AM and the sauna and hot spring junior suite listed at 10:00 AM. All rooms are non-smoking, with a smoking area outside the rooms.

This ryokan-style resort suits you when you want height, ocean views, private hot spring bathing, room choices with saunas or open-air baths, and a quieter Atami stay above the city. You can arrive from the station, step into the high-floor setting, look out across the sea, and let the rhythm of bathing, dining, resting, and viewing the horizon shape your time.
