Overview

Togetsutei is a traditional ryokan located in the scenic Arashiyama district of Kyoto, right by the iconic Togetsukyo Bridge. It was founded in 1897 and offers guests a quiet retreat near some of Japan’s most famous natural and historical sites. The area’s cherry blossoms in spring, cool riverside summers, vibrant autumn foliage, and serene snowy winters offer stunning seasonal views. Not only is Togetsutei in Kyoto, but this timeless ryokan also has rooms with private onsen.

Accommodation

Togetsutei features two lodging options: Hekisenkaku (Riverside Mansion) and Shuzankaku (Mountainside House). Both offer rooms designed in traditional Japanese style, complete with tatami mats and elegant décor. Some rooms come with private open-air or semi-open-air baths. The rooms vary in size, ranging from 8 to 14 tatami mats. When staying at Hekisenkaku you can also access the large communal baths in Shuzankaku.

Dining

Your stay at Togetsutei comes with exceptional kaiseki cuisine, prepared with seasonal ingredients sourced locally. Specialties include tofu and yuba-based dishes.

Meals are served in private rooms, so you can have a private dining experience. The ryokan also accommodates group lunches, banquets, and special celebrations like engagement ceremonies and memorial services.

Onsen & Wellness

Togetsutei features natural hot springs, known as Arashiyama Onsen, offering public and private bath options. The large public baths, made from marble and granite, provide a soothing experience with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Guests seeking more privacy can reserve Tsukiyomi-no-Yu, a private open-air bath. The onsen’s waters are known for their healing properties, helping to relieve neuralgia, muscle pain, and fatigue.

Guests with Tattoos

Guests with tattoos may use the public baths if their tattoos can be covered by a waterproof seal. The ryokan does not provide these seals, so please prepare them before arriving. Alternatively, rent a room with a private onsen for convenience and comfort.

Facilities

Togetsutei has several banquet halls, including the Saga Room, which can hold up to 135 tatami mats and is ideal for large gatherings, such as weddings or corporate meetings. The ryokan also houses a lobby and souvenir shop where you can purchase Kyoto sweets and pickles. The modern TOGETSU CAFE nearby provides a relaxing spot for coffee and Japanese sweets.

Activities

Togetsutei is located near famous sightseeing spots, including Tenryu-ji Temple, Nonomiya Shrine, and the scenic Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. Enjoy activities like the Hozugawa River Cruise or take a ride on the Sagano Scenic Railway to view the seasonal beauty of Kyoto.
