Overview

Senoumi Bettei Umiusagi is a Japanese-style hot spring ryokan in Izu-Inatori Onsen, facing the Pacific coast of Higashiizu. You stay in a relaxed seaside setting with wood, tatami, private open-air baths, Izu seafood, and views toward the Izu Islands. The ryokan opened after renewal in July 2014 and has 24 rooms.

This stay works well when you want a private onsen experience without the scale of a large resort. You can soak in one of four free private open-air baths, dine on Izu flavors such as kinmedai, and use the ryokan as a comfortable base for Inatori, Kawazu, Atagawa, and the wider East Izu coast.

Accommodation

You stay in a Japanese-style room with tatami flooring and beds, giving you the feel of a ryokan with the ease of Western-style sleep. All 24 rooms are non-smoking, and free Wi-Fi is available in every room. Room types include open-air bath Japanese-style twin rooms, Japanese-style semi-double twin rooms, Japanese-style Hollywood twin rooms, and family rooms with triple beds.

The open-air bath rooms give you a more private stay, with a bath attached to your room and space to unwind at your own pace. Rooms 506 to 508 include an open-air bath and a 28㎡ layout, while rooms 706 to 708 were renewed in December 2023 with open-air baths, free Wi-Fi, and 50-inch digital TVs with Netflix access.

Dining

Dinner is served as either a half buffet or Japanese set meal, depending on the day. You can enjoy Izu seafood and vegetables in the ryokan’s Japanese-style dining space, with sample dishes such as seasonal aperitif, seafood delicacies, sashimi, tuna head grill, simmered kinmedai, and fried kasago rockfish. The main dinner dish is beef and pork shabu-shabu.

The food focuses on ingredients from the Izu coast, including fresh kinmedai and spiny lobster. Extra dishes can include whole simmered kinmedai, kinmedai shabu-shabu, abalone sashimi, grilled abalone, spiny lobster sashimi, and spiny lobster grilled in the shell. Ingredient availability may change the menu.

Breakfast is served as either buffet style or a Japanese set meal, depending on the day. You do not choose the format in advance; it is confirmed based on the stay date.

Onsen and Wellness

The main onsen experience is private bathing. On the 7th floor, you have four free private open-air baths: Haru Usagi, Natsu Usagi, Aki Usagi, and Fuyu Usagi. You do not need a reservation. When a bath is open, you can use it privately. The baths look toward the Izu Islands, giving you a wide sea view while you soak.

The spring quality is weak alkaline and weak saline spring water. Listed benefits include smooth-feeling skin, women’s health concerns, rheumatism, and neuralgia. The private bath area also has shower rooms and powder room space with basic skincare items.

Select rooms also include private open-air baths, so you can enjoy bathing without leaving your room. The room open-air baths are large enough for two people and let you feel the sea breeze while soaking.

Umiusagi does not have a large communal bath inside the property. Instead, you have four private open-air baths on site. You can also use the large public bath and open-air bath at the sister property Senoumi, located opposite Umiusagi.

Guests with Tattoos

Since the main baths at Umiusagi are private-use baths, you can bathe without sharing the space when a bath is available. If you plan to use the sister property Senoumi’s public baths, tattoos are not allowed there.
