Overview

LIVEMAX Resort Izu Shimoda gives you a coastal onsen resort stay in Shimoda, Shizuoka, on the southern Izu Peninsula. The hotel stands on a hill overlooking Goishigahama, about 10 minutes by car from Izukyu-Shimoda Station. You can reach it from Tokyo by taking the Shinkansen to Atami, changing to the Izukyu line, and then continuing to Shimoda. The official access page lists the journey from Tokyo at about 150 minutes by train, plus the final car ride from Izukyu-Shimoda Station.

This is a good choice when you want ocean views, hot spring bathing, and easy access to Shimoda’s beaches and sightseeing spots. You can spend your day exploring the coast, then return for a private open-air bath on your room balcony or a soak in the large natural hot spring bath.

Accommodation

You stay in a resort-style room with a private open-air bath on the balcony. The room lineup includes options such as the 70㎡ Ocean Suite, Japanese-style Junior Suite, Western-style Junior Suite with loft, Executive rooms with private balconies, Superior rooms, Standard rooms, and dog-friendly rooms. Room sizes range from 17㎡ to 70㎡, depending on the room type.

Many rooms look out toward the ocean, and several room types include Shigaraki-yaki open-air baths. In-room features include Wi-Fi, wired internet, refrigerator, washlet toilet, individual air conditioning, humidifying air purifier, liquid crystal TV, electric kettle, toiletries, towels, hair dryer, room wear, slippers, and rental items such as DVD players, trouser presses, extension cords, steam irons, and blankets.

Some rooms also welcome dogs, so you can stay with your pet in selected room types. The official site notes that pet stays follow the hotel’s pet accommodation rules.

Dining

You eat at the hotel restaurant, which serves buffet-style meals in a Spanish-inspired dining space with a terrace overlooking Goishigahama. The official restaurant page notes that buffet service may change to a Japanese-Western kaiseki-style set meal when the number of diners does not meet the buffet requirement. The restaurant is for staying visitors only.

Breakfast runs from 7:00 to 9:30, with entry until 9:00. Dinner runs from 18:00 to 21:00, with last order at 20:30. If you want to add dinner on the same day, you need to apply by 15:00.

Onsen and Wellness

ou can enjoy Shimoda’s natural hot spring in the large public bath, open from 6:00 to 11:00 and 15:00 to 24:00. The spring source is listed as Kisami Onsen, Kisami No. 4, with alkaline simple spring water at 30.3°C.

Guests with Tattoos

People with tattoos, including tattoo stickers and body paint, cannot use the large public bath.

Because every room has a private open-air bath on the balcony, you may still be able to enjoy private bathing in your own room.

Facilities

You can use the ocean-view pool, public hot spring bath, room balcony bath, sauna, restaurant, coin laundry, free parking, and Wi-Fi. The hotel has 19 free parking spaces on a first-come, first-served basis.

The ocean-view pool overlooks Goishigahama and runs seasonally. Swimwear is required.

The coin laundry is on basement level 1. The official room page lists washing machines at 200 yen for 30 minutes and dryers at 100 yen for 30 minutes, with detergent sold at the front desk.

Activities

You can use the hotel as a base for Shimoda sightseeing. The official sightseeing page lists Shimoda Ropeway about 6.7 km away, Shimoda Floating Aquarium about 6.8 km away, Izu Cruise about 7.4 km away, and Shimoda History Museum about 5.7 km away.

For beach time, Shirahama Ohama Beach is listed about 11.4 km away by car. In summer, the official usage guide also mentions swimming at Goishigahama, which you can see from the hotel.

You can keep the stay simple, too: enjoy the pool, soak in your balcony bath, visit the large hot spring bath, use the sauna, and have dinner at the restaurant before resting in your room.
