Overview

Mori no Yu Kira no Sato offers a warm countryside-style ryokan experience in Izu Kogen, Itō. Spread across a satoyama-style landscape, the property feels like a small rural village, with paths, greenery, baths, dining spaces, and quiet corners designed for slow movement and easy relaxation.

The appeal here is not only the room or the bath, but the full rhythm of the stay. You can walk through the grounds, soak in 10 types of baths, try the free private open-air baths, enjoy seafood shabu-shabu or lava-grilled dishes at dinner, and finish the evening with complimentary yonaki soba near the footbath.

Accommodation

Mori no Yu Kira no Sato offers four room areas, each with its own character: Hatago Yawatano, Bettei Yamanoto, Hanare Takebue, and Kokyo Umihotaru. This makes it easy to choose the right style, whether you want simple access near the main building, more space, an open-air bath, or a compact room with a sea view on clear days.

Hatago Yawatano was renewed in December 2025 and gives you a nostalgic inn-style room close to the reception building. The rooms measure 35㎡, include a 6-tatami living area and 6-tatami bedroom, and sleep 2 to 4 people with two 120 cm beds and a shower room.

Bettei Yamanoto suits travelers who want more space and an open feel. These rooms are set on higher ground within the property and include a terrace, massage chair, shower room, and either two or three beds depending on the room type. Room sizes are 50㎡ or 58㎡, with capacity for 2 to 5 people.

Hanare Takebue gives you a more private, old-house atmosphere with a source-fed open-air bath in the room. Each room measures 44㎡, sleeps 2 to 4 people, and works especially well if you want to enjoy the hot spring without leaving your accommodation.

Kokyo Umihotaru is a smaller double-bed room for 1 to 2 people. It sits in a position where you can see Sagami Bay on clear days, and includes a 160 cm double bed and shower room.

All rooms are non-smoking and include useful features such as shower room, air conditioning and heating, humidifier, refrigerator, free Wi-Fi, warm-water toilet, phone, TV, and safe.

Dining

Dining at Mori no Yu Kira no Sato gives you two main dinner choices. At Umitsubaki, you enjoy seafood shabu-shabu with seasonal fish and vegetables, mainly from the Izu area. At Yamaboushi, you enjoy lava-grilled domestic beef, pork, and seasonal vegetables. Dinner venue requests are accepted on a first-come basis at check-in, so your preferred choice may depend on arrival timing.

Dinner follows a Japanese kaiseki style with around nine courses, served at your pace in the dining venue. The ryokan does not offer in-room dining; both dinner and breakfast are served in the restaurants.

Breakfast lets you choose Japanese or Western style for each person. This gives the morning a flexible feel, especially if you prefer a lighter Western start while someone else wants a more traditional Japanese breakfast.

A signature Kyoritsu Resort touch adds extra charm in the evening: complimentary yonaki soba is served near the footbath from 22:00 to 23:00, while supplies last.

Onsen and Wellness

Hot spring bathing is one of the strongest reasons to choose Mori no Yu Kira no Sato. The large bath area, Morino-yu, offers 10 types of baths, including indoor baths, open-air baths, jar baths, waterfall-style baths, cypress baths, lukewarm baths, and cold-water baths. After the December 2025 renewal, the bath area also includes a self-löyly sauna and new bucket baths.

The hot spring water comes from two in-house sources and is known as “beauty skin water.” The official site lists the spring as a calcium-sodium sulfate hot spring, with a pH above 9.0 on the hot spring page. Bathing hours are 15:00 to 25:00 and 5:00 to 10:00.

You also have access to three free private open-air baths: Ichi no Yu Ishisho, a bold stone bath; Ni no Yu Chikusen, a bath with bamboo design; and San no Yu Iwakura, a rock-style bath. These private baths do not require reservations and can be used when available. There is no washing area inside the private baths, so they are best for soaking rather than full bathing.

A footbath on the property adds another easy way to enjoy the hot spring atmosphere while walking through the grounds. It opens from 6:00 to 9:00 and 14:00 to 21:00, though it may close in rainy weather.

Guests with tattoos

Mori no Yu Kira no Sato has a clear tattoo policy. The official FAQ states that people with tattoos are asked not to use the large public bath. Instead, the ryokan recommends using the free private baths on the property.

This makes the ryokan more workable if you have tattoos and still want to enjoy the hot spring water. The three private open-air baths are free, do not require reservations, and can be used whenever one is open.

Facilities

The property includes a large bath area, three free private open-air baths, a footbath, two dining venues, a shop, a free drink bar, smoking room, and countryside-style outdoor spaces that make the ryokan feel like a small village rather than a single building. The shop sells Izu souvenirs and seasonal items, while the free drink bar is available at the reception area during set hours.

Mori no Yu Kira no Sato also offers a rice field on the grounds, with rice-planting experiences around mid-May and rice-harvesting experiences around late September in typical years. Seasonal events include satoyama festival activities, a walk rally, lucky-cat search, and nostalgic play corners.

The property has 65 rooms, all non-smoking. Room amenities include TV, phone, tea set, refrigerator, hairdryer, humidifier, individual air conditioning, warm-water toilet, toiletries, towels, samue-style room wear, and safe.

Activities

Time here works best when you let the ryokan set the pace. You can walk through the grounds, stop at the footbath, try the private baths, enjoy the large bath area, join seasonal events, and end the evening with yonaki soba.

The Izu Kogen location also makes it easy to explore the wider Itō area. From Tokyo, you can travel by Shinkansen to Atami, continue through Itō to Izu-Kogen Station, then take the free shuttle bus to the ryokan. The shuttle from Izu-Kogen Station does not require a reservation and takes about 7 minutes according to the official FAQ.

Additional Features

Check-in begins at 15:00, with final check-in at 19:00, and check-out is by 11:00. The ryokan offers 65 non-smoking rooms, four accommodation areas, rooms with source-fed open-air baths in Hanare Takebue, free Wi-Fi, 10 types of baths in the large bath area, three free private open-air baths, a footbath, sauna, two dinner venues, Japanese or Western breakfast, complimentary yonaki soba, a shop, free drink bar, seasonal events, and a free shuttle bus from Izu-Kogen Station. Pets cannot stay at the property, and pets are also not allowed for walks on the grounds
