Overview

Akaneironoumi Arujisu is a seaside ryokan in Odoi, Nishi-Izu, known for sunset views over Suruga Bay. You stay in a quiet coastal setting where the sea shapes the mood of your trip, from the first light in the morning to the deep red glow at dusk. The official English site calls Odoi “the best sunset town in Japan,” and the ryokan’s Japanese site highlights its location in Nishi-Izu, where the ocean turns a rich akane red at sunset.

This is a strong choice if you want privacy, ocean views, and hot spring time without leaving your room. All 15 rooms face Suruga Bay, and every room includes its own private hot spring bath, so you can soak while looking out toward the sea..

Accommodation

You stay in an oceanfront room designed around privacy and the view. Each room looks out toward Suruga Bay and includes a private open-air or semi-open-air hot spring bath, giving you the freedom to bathe whenever you want.

Room choices include Japanese-style rooms with 10 or 12 tatami mats, Japanese-Western special rooms, terrace rock baths, hinoki square baths, and hinoki barrel-style baths. The special rooms “Miyabi” and “Kanade” offer larger layouts, and the official FAQ notes that these two rooms support barrier-free access.

You can settle in, make tea, open the window to the sea breeze, and let your room become your own private lookout over the water. All rooms are non-smoking and include free Wi-Fi.

Dining

Your meals focus on the seafood of Suruga Bay and the seasonal flavors of Nishi-Izu. Dinner features creative seafood dishes prepared with the ryokan’s own style, with courses that may include sashimi, spiny lobster, simmered kinmedai, abalone, sakura shrimp rice, and other seafood depending on the plan and market availability.

You can enjoy dinner and breakfast either in your room or in a semi-private dining room, depending on your room type and plan. The semi-private dining space keeps the mood calm and personal, with the sound of the waves adding to the experience. Breakfast is a Japanese-style meal centered on grilled fish.

Onsen and Wellness

The onsen experience starts in your own room. Since every room has a private hot spring bath, you can soak in natural hot spring water while looking out over the sea. This makes your stay feel easy and unhurried: you can bathe before dinner, after sunset, or early in the morning without watching the clock.

You can also use the top-floor open-air observation bath and the large public bath. The official site lists the spring quality as weak alkaline saline spring, sodium chloride strong salt spring, and sulphate spring, with benefits noted for cold sensitivity, fatigue recovery, rheumatism, and nerve pain. Public bath hours are listed as 15:00–24:00 and 6:00–9:00, though the ryokan may shorten or close the public baths depending on natural hot spring conditions.

For extra relaxation, the ryokan offers esthetic treatments on weekdays, either in your room or at a partner salon, with advance booking

Guests with tattoos

Because every room has its own private hot spring bath, you can still enjoy private bathing in your room. If you want to use the public bath or top-floor open-air bath, contact the ryokan before your stay to confirm the current policy.

Activities

You are only a 1-minute walk from Odoi Beach, so you can spend your time by the water, take slow coastal walks, or enjoy sea bathing in season. The official FAQ says the beach is directly in front of the ryokan, and the sea-bathing season usually runs from July 1 to around late August.

Nearby, you can visit Toi Gold Mine, which is about 5 minutes away by car, or enjoy fishing at Fishing Park TOI, about 10 minutes away by car. For wider views of the Izu coastline, Koibito Misaki is about 25 minutes away by car, and Dogashima Marine is about 30 minutes away by car.

If you prefer a slower day, stay close to the ryokan, watch the sea from your room, soak in your private bath, and let the sunset become the main event.
