Overview
Step into a world of quiet luxury at Beppu Showaen. Tucked within a spacious 6,000 tsubo estate, this ryokan offers just nine traditional standalone villas surrounded by flowing water and whispering breezes. These detached homes invite you to leave daily stress behind and embrace the soothing rhythm of nature.
Even when you do nothing but listen to the rustling leaves and distant calls of seasonal insects, time feels meaningful. Here, you won’t find distraction or noise—only peaceful moments crafted just for you. In-room hot spring baths and carefully prepared meals turn each stay into a deep, personal retreat.
Accommodation
At Beppu Showaen, each of the nine villas is an independent structure, allowing complete privacy and tranquility. Choose from six room types, all featuring either indoor cypress baths or open-air rock baths with water flowing directly from the source.

Mihotsukushi / Kiritsubo
These two Japanese-style villas include outdoor rock baths as well as indoor tubs. Their unique bath designs make them among the most requested.

Wakana
Designed for accessibility, Wakana offers barrier-free access from the parking area and plenty of space inside. You can enter this villa by wheelchair and enjoy its generous layout.
Size: Approx. 102㎡
Bath: Rock open-air bath + indoor cypress tub
Capacity: 7 people
Each villa includes a refrigerator, air conditioning, bidet toilet, TV, bath amenities, yukata, tabi socks, and more. You can request additional items like humidifiers or extra pillows.
Dining
Enjoy every meal in the comfort of a private dining room. Showaen’s chefs serve each dish at the perfect moment—warm plates while still steaming, chilled items with crisp textures. The ingredients come from Oita and across Japan, selected not just for quality but for how they reveal their full flavor through careful preparation.
Dinner features a seasonal kaiseki menu with highlights like fugu sashimi, grilled seasonal fish, and slow-simmered broth dishes. The kitchen makes its own dashi, ponzu, and pickled garnishes from scratch. Even the salt is personally boiled by the head chef.
Your breakfast is just as special. One of the most praised items is the handmade dried fish—fluffy, firm, and rich in flavor. Many who usually skip breakfast find themselves reaching for a second helping of rice. Don’t be surprised if you want to take home the house-made tsukudani or dried fish after trying them.
Onsen and Wellness
Each villa includes either an indoor cypress bath or an outdoor rock bath filled with 100% natural hot spring water. The water comes from a gold mine vein and is known as “Bijin no Yu”—a bath for beauty.
This sodium-sulfate and bicarbonate spring has a pH of 8.1 and includes minerals like magnesium, potassium, and lithium. The water gently exfoliates your skin and leaves it feeling smooth. You’ll feel the benefits immediately, whether it’s your first soak or your fifth.
You can also reserve a private family bath—choose from two open-air bath types, each surrounded by a Japanese garden. You can use these for free for 50 minutes, between 3:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., in the order of check-in.
Guests with Tattoos
Because each room and private bath is independent, tattoos are not a concern. You can fully enjoy the hot springs in total privacy.
