Inside, the space is furnished with natural wood and calming neutral tones. The room also includes a private half-open-air bath with hot spring water directly from the famous Horita Onsen.
All rooms are non-smoking, but you can smoke on the terrace. The ryokan does not accommodate children in third grade or younger, and the facilities are not barrier-free.
Dining
Terrace Midoubaru elevates traditional kaiseki dining with a contemporary touch. The chefs source seasonal ingredients from the local Oita region, transforming them into artistic, flavorful dishes.
For dinner, enjoy multiple courses that might include:
- Homemade miso-simmered mackerel
- Seasonal chawanmushi with Toyo-no-kome eggs
- Local sashimi
- Grilled marlin with turnip puree
- Shabu-shabu with Kagoshima beef and Oita shiitake mushrooms
- A light soba noodle course and rice from Taketa in southern Oita
- Dessert like kabosu cream cheese mousse
Your breakfast includes regional specialties like Ryukyu-style marinated sashimi, tamagoyaki, grilled mackerel, tofu hot pot, and steamed rice.
All meals are served at the on-site restaurant “Setsugetsuka,” located in a separate building. Dinner service begins at 6:00 PM.
Onsen and Wellness
Let the mineral-rich waters of Horita Onsen ease your tension. Every room features a half-open-air bath with sulfur springs, known for their healing and beautifying effects. These waters can help treat skin conditions, joint pain, chronic fatigue, and stress-related ailments such as insomnia and depression.
You can also unwind in the public large bath. While soaking, take in the view of the garden or the changing seasons beyond.
For deeper relaxation, book a full-body oil treatment using original essential oils. The therapists apply slow, firm pressure to relax your muscles and support circulation and the lymphatic system.
Treatments are offered between 10:00 AM and 9:00 PM. Advance reservations are recommended.
Guests with Tattoos
The ryokan does not specifically state a tattoo policy for the public bath. However, since each room includes a private onsen bath, you can still enjoy the hot springs in complete privacy regardless of tattoos.
