Overview

At Mikuniya Ryokan, your stay centers on comfort, tradition, and thoughtful hospitality. Located in the heart of Kinosaki Onsen, this wooden three-story ryokan blends the charm of a classic Japanese inn with a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Mikuniya invites you to experience the slower side of life. With a focus on art, craftsmanship, and local culture, the ryokan offers an intimate setting where each detail—from hand-finished washi paper to traditional incense at the entrance—enhances your stay.

Whether you’re soaking in a private onsen, relaxing in a quiet tatami room, or enjoying a seasonal meal in your own space, every moment here reflects the heart of Japanese hospitality.

Accommodation

Mikuniya offers 11 non-smoking rooms across its main building and annex, each one carefully crafted with natural materials and individual touches.

Special Room “Evergreen”

The most luxurious space in the ryokan. This suite combines traditional and Western design, with separate rooms for sleeping, bathing, and relaxing. Features handmade Echizen washi, an alcove with a sofa and writing space, floor heating on the veranda, and unique interior elements crafted from chestnut and cedar. Ideal for 4–6 people.

Semi-Special Room “Kiku”

A blend of tradition and texture, this room features cherry wood trim, handmade plaster walls, rush ceilings, and hexagonal pillars. It combines craftsmanship and comfort in a sophisticated, quiet setting.

Japanese-Style Rooms

8–10 tatami mat rooms with shoji screens, handmade details, and a soft aesthetic. These rooms provide a classic Japanese experience, perfect for travelers looking to connect with culture and tradition. Every room includes a flat-screen TV, refrigerator, washlet toilet, sink, and Wi-Fi.

All rooms include yukata, towels, bath bags, toothbrushes, and hairdryers. Additional items like razors, shower caps, and combs are available at the front desk. You can also borrow facial ion steamers and choose from a variety of colored yukata for women (free of charge).

Dining

Your meals at Mikuniya highlight the rich bounty of the Tajima region. Surrounded by sea, mountains, and rivers, this area offers some of Japan’s finest seasonal ingredients.

  • Tajima Beef – Known as the origin of Japanese black beef, Tajima cattle are raised in the snow-covered mountains and produce tender, flavorful meat.
  • Matsuba Crab – From November to March, enjoy this winter delicacy known for its sweet, delicate meat and rich roe.
  • Tajima Koshihikari Rice – Grown in pristine natural conditions with snowmelt water from the Hyonose mountains, this rice is both aromatic and sticky.

Dinner is served in your room, allowing you to relax and dine at your own pace. This is ideal for families with children or anyone who wants privacy during their meal. For groups, meals can be arranged in a banquet hall or other shared spaces. Breakfast is served in the breakfast hall and features locally sourced Tajima ingredients.

Onsen and Wellness

At Mikuniya, all four hot spring baths are private and reserved only for staying guests. You can enjoy these baths with your family, friends, or partner at any time between 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m.

No reservation is needed—simply check if a bath is available and lock the door from inside.

The baths are mixed-gender and allow you to bathe together in complete privacy.

Each bath comes with shampoo, conditioner, body soap, skincare products, and a hairdryer.

After bathing, head to the rest area in the annex, where you can enjoy cold Kinosaki water or a free popsicle. It’s the perfect way to cool down and wind down after your soak.
