Overview
Dogo Prince Hotel invites you to experience the charm of Japan’s oldest hot spring town with comfort, warmth, and a touch of playful delight. Located in Matsuyama, this ryokan sits just a 10-minute walk from Dogo Onsen Honkan. Whether you’re traveling with children, planning a romantic stay, or marking a special occasion, you’ll find plenty of ways to enjoy your time here. From orange juice flowing from taps to a wide range of unique baths, this ryokan offers more than just a place to stay—it gives you memories to take home.
Accommodation
You can choose from many room types, each offering a relaxing atmosphere and a style that matches your mood. If you’re looking for privacy and luxury, book a suite in the Kaikatei or Seigetsutei buildings. These rooms feature open-air baths filled with water from Dogo Onsen and come with terraces that overlook the city or Matsuyama Castle. The rooms also include Simmons semi-double beds, traditional tatami spaces, and custom-made walls using local washi paper for a refined touch.
Kaikatei rooms come with special access to the Hoshizora Club Lounge, where you can enjoy draft beer and soft drinks freely.
For a more casual stay, try the modern Japanese-style twin rooms with terraces. These were added in 2024 and offer hanging chairs and great views. You can also choose from refurbished Western-style twins, traditional Japanese tatami rooms, and even an Asian-style room with Ryukyu tatami and platform beds.
Every room includes essentials like Wi-Fi, yukata robes, a tea set, air conditioning, and a massage chair in select rooms. From simple comfort to indulgent stays, you’ll find a room that suits you.
Dining
Your stay includes the chance to taste seasonal dishes from the Seto Inland Sea and surrounding regions. Enjoy course meals filled with fresh sea bream, locally raised beef, and handmade specialties. One of the ryokan’s most loved dishes is the sea bream shabu-shabu and A4-grade wagyu grilled on a hot plate. Meals include soup, sashimi, steamed egg custard, and house specialties like soy-sauce-flavored rice.
For something more indulgent, select the premium kaiseki course with sea bream rice, simmered daikon with eel, steamed abalone, and sukiyaki beef. These dishes highlight local ingredients and traditional techniques.
You can eat in the main restaurant, a private dining room, or even in your room. If you’re traveling with small children, in-room dining offers a relaxed setting where you don’t need to worry about others.
For breakfast, enjoy either a buffet with over 50 items or a set menu with both Japanese and Western items. Try the ryokan’s famous “nokkedon” (DIY rice bowl) with toppings like jakoten, miso soup with matsuyama fried tofu, and freshly squeezed orange juice.
Onsen and Wellness
Relax in Japan’s oldest hot spring, drawn directly into the baths at Dogo Prince Hotel. The large public bath “Yunoka” includes a silken bath, bubble bath, and a sauna with infused steam (löyly). Step outside to enjoy “Yunone,” where eight different open-air baths let you enjoy hot spring bathing under the sky.
If you prefer privacy, book a session in one of the four reservable outdoor baths called “Yuraku.” These spaces are ideal for families or couples who want a quiet soak.
You’ll also find hand and foot baths on site. Change into your yukata, soak your feet, and try a hot spring-boiled egg right by the water.
Guests with Tattoos
If you have tattoos, you can still enjoy the hot springs in private. Reserve one of the private open-air baths for a comfortable, stress-free soak.
Facilities
Dogo Prince Hotel includes more than just hot springs. You can visit the Hoshizora Lounge if you stay in Kaikatei or Seigetsutei rooms. Here, you’ll find soft drinks and beer, all complimentary.
Families love the manga reading room, play areas like the citrus-themed ball pit, and the room where you can make your own hot spring eggs. There’s even a ping pong room themed after “Onsen Musume,” adding a fun twist to a traditional pastime.
Throughout the ryokan, you’ll find little details designed to make you smile—from orange-themed drinks on tap to local folk character decorations.
Activities
There’s no need to go far to enjoy yourself. Within the ryokan, you can try Tobe ware painting workshops or attend seasonal taiko drum shows. If you’re curious about the local area, rent a yukata and explore the streets of Dogo. You’re just minutes from Dogo Onsen Honkan, the retro shopping street, and iconic landmarks like the Botchan Clock and Dogo Park.
You can also join optional tours, like a premium bus ride to watch traditional cormorant fishing on the Ozu River.
