Overview
Perched on a hill above the coastline, Genmyoan offers a breathtaking, unobstructed view of Amanohashidate—known in ancient tales as “Heaven’s Bridge.” According to legend, the gods created a ladder to descend from the skies, which fell to Earth and became the sinuous land bridge you now see stretching across the bay. From Genmyoan’s elevated vantage point, the shape of the land bridge resembles a flying dragon, giving rise to the name “Flying Dragon View.”
Accommodation
Genmyoan offers 17 unique guest rooms, 14 of which face the land bridge and 3 that overlook Miyazu Bay and the town below. Large, low-positioned windows ensure you never lose sight of the sea, sky, coast, and mountains. Most rooms were designed by architect Tatsuo Mori, who blended traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern sensibilities.
Room Highlights:
- Nyoi: A luxurious space with an open-air bath and sweeping land bridge view.
- Kongo: Offers the largest area with a bay-facing open-air bath and Western design.
- Tsuki, Ichiji, Katsuga: Each features semi-open-air baths with land bridge views.
- Kiku, Yayoi: Spacious rooms with standard baths and adjoining tatami areas.
- Chitose, Ryuto, Shiraito: Feature distinct views and layout combinations.
- Kuse, Horai: Standard rooms that still capture the beauty of Amanohashidate.
All rooms prioritize the experience of the view—everywhere you sit, nature surrounds you.
