Miho no Matsubara Onsen

Miho no Matsubara, located in Shizuoka Prefecture, is a picturesque seashore on the Miho Peninsula that is renowned for both its natural beauty and its rich cultural heritage. This seven-kilometer stretch of beach is adorned with over 30,000 lush pine trees, contributing to its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The sight of the iconic snow-capped Mount Fuji rising majestically in the distance, as viewed from Miho no Matsubara, has inspired countless artists and poets throughout the centuries.

Asides from its breathtaking scenic beauty, Miho no Matsubara is steeped in local folklore and legends, most notably the story of Hagoromo, a celestial robe of feathers. It’s believed that a celestial maiden once bathed in the sea here, leaving her feathered robe on a pine tree. The tale has been immortalized in Noh theatre and adds a distinct mythical charm to this tranquil location.
