Atagawa Onsen

Atagawa, nestled along the eastern coastline of the Izu Peninsula, is a charming onsen area renowned for its lush subtropical vegetation and rejuvenating hot springs. The town’s location, blessed by the warm Kuroshio Current, has allowed for the growth of a vast collection of palm trees and tropical plants, a sight rarely seen in other parts of Japan. The onsen waters of Atagawa, rich in minerals like sodium and calcium, are said to have healing properties, especially for skin ailments and nerve pain.

Characterized by a tranquil and relaxed atmosphere, Atagawa invites visitors to immerse themselves in the local culture and natural beauty. The town is home to the Atagawa Tropical & Alligator Garden, a unique attraction that houses crocodiles and a variety of exotic birds and plants. After a day of exploration, unwind at one of the many traditional Japanese inns (ryokan) with their private onsen baths, where you can experience the authentic Japanese onsen culture while enjoying breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean.
