Overview

Aokiya Ryokan sits on the slopes of Mt. Tsukuba, where you can take in panoramic views of the Kanto Plain and, on clear days, even spot Mt. Fuji and the Southern Alps. Located in Ibaraki Prefecture, the ryokan gives you easy access to nearby attractions like Tsukuba Shrine and the Flower Park. Whether you’re here to unwind in the baths or savor the flavors of seasonal kaiseki cuisine, Aokiya offers a peaceful escape surrounded by nature and history.

Accommodation

Choose from rooms that match your travel style. If you’re looking for luxury, try one of the rooms with a private open-air bath. These spaces let you soak in warm water while gazing out at the landscape—whether it’s the twinkling lights of Tsukuba City or the distant silhouette of Mt. Fuji.

There are two types of open-air bath rooms: ceramic or hinoki wood. While you can’t select the type in advance, both offer a relaxing retreat. You can also opt for a standard Japanese-style room with views of either Mt. Tsukuba or the night skyline. Each room gives you a front-row seat to the seasonal changes outside—whether it’s cherry blossoms in spring or crisp, clear winter skies.

Dining

Meals at Aokiya feature colorful seasonal ingredients served as traditional kaiseki. Enjoy your dinner at a relaxed pace either in your room or in the Japanese-style dining room, where chefs prepare dishes like tempura right in front of you.

Each season brings a new set of flavors. Spring might offer mountain vegetables, summer brings fresh seafood, fall features rich root vegetables, and winter focuses on warming broths and hearty dishes. No matter when you visit, your meal will highlight the best of the season.

Onsen and Wellness

Soak in the panoramic open-air bath, “Unjo-no-Yu,” where you can feel the sky open above you. The bath has no roof, offering full exposure to the stars, the sunsets, and the sweeping views over the Kanto region.

You can also visit the indoor Ginga-no-Yu bath, a large public space with wide windows that let you enjoy the landscape while you relax. For men, there’s a sauna available in the evening hours.
