Overview
Arimasansoh Goshobessho is a luxurious ryokan in Arima Onsen, Japan’s oldest and most famous hot spring resort. Arimasansoh Goshobessho, once a temple turned hotel and formerly known as the Kiyomizu Hotel, became one of the first onsen resorts to cater specifically to foreign guests during the Meiji era, when Japan was opening up to Western influences.
Foreigners from the Kobe settlement gathered to explore Arima Onsen. English was spoken at Kiyomizu Hotel, and bread, butter, and coffee were served on the tables. In the 21st century, the Shimizu Hotel was reborn as Arimasansoh Goshobessho, and continues to operate today.
Accommodation
All 10 suites at Arimasansoh Goshobessho offer over 100 square meters of space, each featuring its own private onsen and thermal room. The rooms are designed in three styles: the spacious “Yamaso” suites with high ceilings, the “Takikawa” suites with a two-story layout connected by a spiral staircase, and the treehouse-style “Corbo de Ouro” villa with an open-air golden spring bath. Each suite combines natural wood interiors with high-quality Japanese amenities, offering a relaxing environment filled with the scent of wood and the tranquility of nature.
Dining
When staying at Arimasansoh Goshobessho, enjoy “Yamaga Kaiseki” cuisine, which showcases the best local ingredients from the surrounding mountains and seas, including Kobe beef and fresh seafood from Akashi Port. Each meal is carefully prepared to highlight the seasonal flavors of the region.
The ryokan also offers a special dining experience featuring Matsuba crab and Ise lobster courses. Meals are served in private dining areas, with large windows offering views of the changing seasons.
Onsen & Wellness
The ryokan features private hot springs in every room, sourced from Arima’s famous iron-rich chloride springs. These ancient waters are known for their healing properties, helping to improve circulation and rejuvenate the body. In addition to the onsen, each suite includes a thermal room kept at body temperature, providing a meditative space to boost immunity and promote relaxation.
The ryokan also features the world’s first treehouse-style onsen, “Corbo de Ouro,” allowing you to soak while surrounded by nature.
Guests with Tattoos
Guests with tattoos are welcome to use the private hot springs available in each suite, offering a discreet and personal onsen experience. Since all suites come with their own baths, there are no restrictions for tattooed guests.
