Overview
Take in the gentle rhythm of the countryside at Yamagataya, a long-established inn in Atsushio Onsen. Surrounded by rice fields, forested hills, and the changing colors of the seasons, this peaceful retreat offers warm hospitality, thoughtful meals, and mineral-rich hot springs. With roots dating back over 650 years, the onsen water continues to heal both body and spirit. Whether you’re here for a relaxing getaway, a seasonal food journey, or a cultural stay, Yamagataya invites you to slow down and breathe in the beauty of Aizu.
Accommodation
Choose your stay from two unique wings: Sayuritei and Otomekan, each offering rooms that overlook the rural landscape.
Sayuritei:
- Modern Twin (12 tatami) – Sleep in beds while enjoying a traditional Japanese room layout.
- Japanese Rooms (12, 14, 8 tatami) – These spaces feature warm wood interiors and expansive windows. Ideal for couples, families, and groups.
Otomekan:
- Japanese-Western Room with Twin Beds (8 tatami + twin) – Combines a raised tatami area with beds for extra comfort. This setup suits those who prefer Western sleeping styles or need easier access.
Every room includes a washlet toilet, refrigerator, tea set, safe, and heating/cooling. You’ll also find yukata, towels, toothbrushes, razors, and other essentials waiting for you. If you need extras—like a humidifier, wheelchair, sewing kit, or baby items—you can borrow them at no extra charge.
Dining
Yamagataya serves dishes under the philosophy of “Shindofuji”—a belief that eating local, seasonal foods supports both body and soul. Every dish on your table celebrates the freshness and flavor of Aizu.
- Spring brings you Kitakata asparagus, wild mountain vegetables, and sweet-tart Aizu strawberries.
- Summer highlights juicy tomatoes, cucumbers, and crisp green beans grown in fertile soil and large temperature swings.
- Autumn welcomes award-winning Aizu Koshihikari rice and the delicate sweetness of Mishirazu persimmons.
- Winter warms you with snow-aged napa cabbage, thick white daikon, and the prized Aizu Jidori chicken—a rare local breed known for its rich taste.
Meals reflect creativity and care. Enjoy dishes like wagyu hot pot, handmade tomato compote, and miso soups filled with fresh vegetables. Breakfast is hearty and healthy, featuring local black soybean natto, soft konjac sashimi, and freshly steamed rice.
Onsen and Wellness
Yamagataya draws its hot spring water directly from the mountains. The Atsushio no Yu flows at a naturally high temperature of 65.5°C, rich in salt and known for its deep warmth and skin-softening qualities.
Oshikirigawa Bath:
Crafted from aromatic hinoki cypress, this large bath creates the feeling of soaking in a secret forest spring. The outdoor stone bath offers views of the countryside and brings in the sounds and scents of each season.
Himesayuri Bath:
Styled with local Kitakata brick, this modern bath glows with natural light during the day and offers stunning views of the surrounding hills at dusk. The outdoor bath gives you quiet moments with the sound of birds and rustling leaves.
Foot Bath in the Forest:
Follow a hidden path to a peaceful open-air foot bath. Soak your feet while enjoying panoramic views and the gentle sounds of nature.
