Overview

Aura Tachibana sits on the highest hill in Hakone Yumoto, offering you a peaceful retreat with panoramic views of the mountains and town below. This adults-only ryokan gives you a place to unwind after busy days, without needing to dress up or make special plans. Whether you’re arriving in everyday clothes or taking a last-minute trip, you’ll always feel welcome here.

Aura Tachibana blends traditional style with thoughtful touches. You’ll find a relaxing rhythm here—soak in hot spring baths, enjoy carefully prepared meals, and watch the sky shift over Hakone from the rooftop terrace. The ryokan includes two distinct buildings: Kaze no Tachi, where every room has a private open-air bath, and Mori no Tachi, offering spacious Japanese-style rooms for families and groups.

Accommodation

You can choose between two styles of rooms at Aura Tachibana.

Kaze no Tachi offers rooms with private open-air baths and a relaxing atmosphere made just for adults. These rooms include standard twins, deluxe twins with living areas, Japanese-Western style suites, and top-floor rooms with wide views of the Hakone mountains. Renovated in December 2025, the top-floor rooms now offer a fresh look with seasonal scenery right outside your window.

Mori no Tachi features large, traditional Japanese rooms with tatami floors. Some include twin beds for added comfort. These rooms work well for families and can accommodate up to six people.

Each room includes everything you need for a comfortable stay—air conditioning, private bathrooms, and views of either the garden or the town below.

Dining

Your stay includes creative kaiseki-style meals made with fresh vegetables and seafood. Dinner features “Beppin cuisine,” a concept that blends beauty, taste, and harmony. The chefs design each menu around seasonal ingredients, adjusting the dishes monthly to highlight the freshest local flavors.

You’ll dine in one of two dining rooms depending on where you’re staying—Mori no Tachi Dining on the 2nd floor or Kaze no Tachi Dining on the 5th floor. Meal times begin at 6:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. You’ll receive the exact time at check-in.

Breakfast includes healthy Japanese dishes, like steamed vegetables served with two types of salt, miso soup made from cooking scraps, and Koshihikari rice from trusted farmers. This colorful meal, served with Hakone spring water, helps you start your day with energy and a smile.

Please note that meals are not served in the rooms and the ryokan does not accommodate allergy or dietary restrictions. Children’s meals are available for infants and elementary school-aged children, but the exact content may vary by season.

Onsen and Wellness

Aura Tachibana offers several ways to enjoy Hakone’s famous hot spring water. All baths use natural, weakly alkaline spring water (pH 8.7), which is gentle on the skin and promotes relaxation.

The large public baths are open from 3:00 p.m. to midnight and again from 5:00 to 9:30 a.m. These baths include indoor and open-air areas, saunas, and partitions for privacy. Whether you’re soaking under the stars or starting your day with a morning bath, you’ll feel refreshed and restored.

If you want more privacy, you can reserve the rooftop open-air bath attached to the sky terrace. This bath gives you a quiet space with mountain views and is perfect for couples or close companions. The bath is available for 45-minute sessions for an additional fee. You’ll need to bring towels from your room.

Guests with Tattoos

If you have tattoos, you can use the private rooftop bath without any restrictions. The public baths, however, may not be available for tattooed individuals. Reserving a private bath gives you full access to the hot spring experience in a more secluded setting.

Facilities

Aura Tachibana offers more than just beautiful rooms and baths. During your stay, you can relax at the rooftop café and bar on the Sky Terrace. Sip on hand-brewed coffee during the day or enjoy seasonal cocktails as the sun sets. The terrace overlooks the town of Hakone Yumoto, creating the perfect spot for a quiet moment.

Other on-site features include:

  • Tea lounge
  • Bar lounge (open seasonally)
  • Banquet and conference room (up to 50 people)
  • Souvenir shop

  • Free Wi-Fi throughout the building
  • Free parking is available for up to 30 vehicles on a first-come basis.

Activities

At Aura Tachibana, the focus is on slowing down and reconnecting—with your partner, friends, or yourself. The location gives you easy access to explore Hakone’s natural surroundings, nearby museums, and traditional streets. After a day out, come back to your room, relax in the bath, and look out over the lights of Hakone Yumoto.

If you’re traveling during the warmer months, you can spend time on the Sky Terrace or enjoy a walk through the nearby hills.
