Overview

Look out over Amanohashidate, one of Japan’s most famous scenic views, while staying at Charoku Bekkan—a traditional ryokan built in the refined sukiya style. Located in Miyazu, Kyoto Prefecture, this ryokan offers a tranquil retreat where craftsmanship and hospitality meet. From the moment you arrive, you’ll feel the balance of elegance and comfort that defines the space.

Charoku Bekkan only welcomes travelers over the age of six, ensuring a peaceful environment throughout your stay. The property includes eleven carefully designed rooms and can accommodate up to forty people. You’ll find yourself surrounded by traditional design, attentive care, and views of garden paths or the Sea of Japan.

Accommodation

Each room at Charoku Bekkan carries a unique name and character, combining traditional Japanese architecture with personal touches. Whether you’re relaxing in a garden-view suite or enjoying a quiet night in a tea-room-inspired space, every room reflects a commitment to comfort and beauty.

Hourai (Special Suite)

Spend your time in a luxurious suite overlooking gardens on both sides. Located on the first floor, this room includes a spacious Japanese-Western interior and a twin bedroom. Recently renovated for even greater comfort.

Yu no Ma – Matsukaze & Idutsu

Located on the second floor facing the sea, these rooms invite you to unwind in a soft, Japanese-style space designed to slow down time. Wrap yourself in the calm atmosphere and enjoy the rhythm of the sea beyond the windows.

Kai no Ma – Naniwa, Okina, Hagoromo

Each room in the Kai series has a distinct layout and style. Located on the second floor, Naniwa and Okina face the sea, while Hagoromo looks out over the garden. These standard rooms balance comfort with character.

Kinuta (Sukiya-Style Twin)

This room features twin beds, a custom-designed ceiling, and elegant wooden details that express the craftsmanship behind sukiya architecture. Located on the second floor with a sea view, it offers both refinement and rest.

Ama (Japanese-Western Room)

Inspired by a tea house, this room includes a detailed main room and a twin-bed subroom. With lattice ceilings and careful woodwork, every part of the space reflects thoughtful design. Located on the second floor, facing the streets of the town.

Kagetsu

From this first-floor room and its semi-open-air bath, you can gaze out over the garden while soaking in calm. The bath and the view come together to offer a deeply relaxing experience.

Kamo

The largest of the second-floor sea-facing rooms, Kamo features two spacious areas and sweeping views of Amanohashidate. Ideal for anyone looking to stretch out and savor every moment.

Oimatsu

Slightly smaller than other rooms, Oimatsu is a more budget-friendly option. Built in the shoin-zukuri style, it showcases traditional architectural details in a compact but charming layout.

Dining

Charoku Bekkan focuses on delivering refined seasonal meals that highlight the flavors of Kyoto and the Sea of Japan. You’ll dine in the newly renovated dining room Hana no, which includes semi-private tables and private raised-floor seating. If you’re staying in the Hourai or Kagetsu rooms, you can also choose to enjoy dinner in your room.

Matsuba Crab (Winter Only: November to March)

The famous “Zuwaigani” crab, caught fresh by day-trip boats in Tango, is served in many forms: grilled, in hot pot, as sashimi, and in a rich rice porridge. The homemade crab vinegar enhances the natural sweetness of the crab.

Kan-buri (Winter Yellowtail) Shabu-Shabu (Winter Only: November to March)

Thinly sliced cold-season yellowtail is quickly dipped in dashi broth and enjoyed with ponzu. Its rich, fatty flavor fills your mouth with warmth. Finish the meal with rice porridge made from the remaining broth.

The ryokan also offers day-use dining plans if you’re not staying overnight.

Onsen and Wellness

While Charoku Bekkan doesn’t have large communal baths, you’ll find private in-room bathing options, including semi-open-air baths in certain rooms. These baths are beautifully maintained and ideal for quiet soaking after a day of travel. Whether you’re watching the garden or just closing your eyes and relaxing, the bath becomes your personal sanctuary.

Guests with Tattoos

Since the bathing spaces are private and located within your room, you don’t need to worry about tattoo restrictions. You can enjoy your bath in comfort and privacy, regardless of personal style.
