Overview

Fubuan offers a private and peaceful stay in Beppu, allowing you to enjoy both hot springs and gourmet experiences on your own terms. Located near the famous Kannawa Onsen district and the popular Jigoku Meguri hot spring tour, this ryokan gives you easy access to Beppu’s most iconic spots. Fubuan introduces a new travel concept: separate lodging and dining. Here, you can enjoy your stay in a well-appointed room with your own hot spring bath and choose where and what you want to eat—whether it’s dining out, ordering delivery, or bringing your own favorite meals.

This flexible approach lets you fully enjoy your time in Beppu. Unwind in your private bath, then step out to discover local culinary gems at your own pace.

Accommodation

Fubuan features seven unique rooms, all designed as individual detached spaces. Each room includes both an indoor and a semi-open-air hot spring bath that flows directly from the source. You’ll enjoy the soft, nourishing waters of what’s known as a bijin-yu—a “beautifying bath.”

Choose between two styles: maisonette (two-story) and flat (single-story).

Maisonette Rooms

Santoku
This Japanese-Western room sleeps up to five. It includes two single beds and futons for larger groups. You’ll find a tea room, tatami living space, and upstairs lounge.

Yotoku
This room combines a king-size bed with traditional touches. It includes a living room, second room, and upstairs bedroom. It accommodates up to four people.

Taitoku
A fully Japanese-style space with tatami throughout. This room includes a downstairs tatami area and upstairs lounge. It fits up to five people using futons.

Yutoku
This spacious Japanese-Western hybrid includes a king-size bed and futon options. With a generous layout of three rooms across two floors, it’s ideal for families or small groups of up to four.

Flat Rooms

Hotoku
A one-story Japanese-style room with a tatami area and adjacent space for lounging. It sleeps up to five people on futons.

Watoku
A cozy one-story Japanese-style room that fits up to three people, with a sitting room looking out into the garden.

Shintoku
Another single-story Japanese room with a main area and a second small room. It accommodates up to five people with futons.

All rooms are non-smoking and designed with comfort and relaxation in mind. You’ll stay surrounded by natural materials and thoughtful design touches that reflect the mood of each season.

Dining

Fubuan follows a “stay only” concept—your room doesn’t come with meals, which gives you the freedom to choose how you want to dine. You’re welcome to bring your own food, order delivery, or go out to local restaurants.

This style suits those who want full control over their meals. Maybe you have dietary preferences or want to try Beppu’s hidden local spots—Fubuan makes that possible without sacrificing the comfort of a ryokan. You can enjoy dinner in your room without worrying about fixed menus or large portions.

The staff can recommend restaurants ranging from casual eateries to refined spots perfect for special occasions. Delivery options are also available, and the ryokan provides information on trusted services.

Please note: you cannot bring in strongly scented foods or cook items like barbecue inside the rooms.

Onsen and Wellness

Each room at Fubuan includes its own indoor and semi-open-air hot spring bath, giving you full privacy and freedom. The hot spring water is gentle on your skin, rich in minerals, and flows directly from the source—no circulation or reheating.

The water here is known as a bijin-yu—a beautifying bath. It’s slightly alkaline (pH 8.4), similar to Japan’s three most famous beautifying springs. The texture is silky and light, giving your skin a soft, smooth feeling. This water has no strong sulfur smell, making it comfortable for those who are sensitive to typical onsen odors.

The gentle, pale blue tint of the water changes with the light. Simply watching the surface of the bath feels like a form of meditation. Whether you’re soaking under the stars or enjoying a quiet morning bath, the experience connects you with both nature and stillness.

Guests with Tattoos

Since each room includes a private bath, you can enjoy the onsen fully and without restrictions if you have tattoos. There are no shared facilities, so privacy is always yours.

Facilities

Fubuan is designed for simplicity, comfort, and freedom. While there’s no shared dining hall or large common area, each room is fully equipped for a comfortable stay.
