Overview

Welcome to Gero Onsen Fugaku, where the clear waters of the Hida River flow gently beneath Japan’s northern Alps. Surround yourself with mountain air, seasonal landscapes, and the charm of Gero—one of Japan’s three most celebrated hot springs. From spring cherry blossoms to the vibrant colors of autumn, each season transforms the scenery you can admire from your room, the outdoor bath, or during a stroll along the river.

Accommodation

Choose from a range of rooms tailored to your travel style—whether you’re planning a romantic escape, a trip with friends, or a family gathering.

Suite with Cypress View Bath

Enjoy spacious Japanese-Western styling with a private cypress bath overlooking the river. The wooden bath isn’t a hot spring, but its warmth and view create a deeply relaxing retreat.

Riverfront Japanese-Western Room

Stretch out on tatami floors or sink into soft beds. This room blends the comfort of traditional Japanese design with modern Western touches and offers peaceful views of the Hida River.

16-Mat Japanese Room

This roomy layout is ideal for families or groups. While located on the mountainside, it offers a calm space for everyone to relax together. You can request either a smoking or deodorized non-smoking setup.

10-Mat Japanese Room

A cozy space perfect for couples or small families. This room allows you to rest surrounded by soft tatami and a traditional atmosphere. Smoking or deodorized non-smoking options are available.

All rooms include Wi-Fi, a private bathroom, and amenities like towels, yukata, and toiletries.

Dining

At Fugaku, each meal showcases the flavors of Hida’s seasons and soil. Dine privately in your room, or select a plan with seating in the newly built fourth-floor dining area—featuring warm wooden interiors and a calm, personal setting.

Dinner

Savor Hida beef grilled in fragrant magnolia leaves with a special miso blend, a standout local dish. Enjoy a full kaiseki meal crafted with seasonal vegetables, river fish, and regional specialties that reflect the land and time of year.

Breakfast

Start your morning with a carefully prepared spread of local ingredients—served in the same relaxed, private space.

If you have allergies, notify the ryokan in advance. The staff will accommodate your needs as best they can, though some limitations may apply.

Onsen and Wellness

Gero Onsen is known for its silky, slightly alkaline water, gentle on your skin and deeply soothing. The baths at Fugaku let you enjoy this water in a range of settings, each offering a different perspective of Gero’s landscape.

Observation Bath (5th Floor)

Soak in a bright, open bath with sweeping views over the Hida River and the cityscape. This bath alternates between men’s and women’s use.

Outdoor View Bath (5th Floor)

Experience the seasons in an open-air setting. From fresh green spring to snowy winter, the scenery always enhances your soak.

Large Public Bath (Basement Level)

Head to the lower level for a more enclosed, calming space with abundant flowing water. This bath also operates on a gender-swapped schedule.

Private Baths

For added privacy, reserve a small ceramic bath made with Shigaraki pottery. These baths are ideal for couples, parents with children, or anyone wanting a quiet soak on their own schedule.

The water at Fugaku comes from a central source within Gero Onsen and is carefully maintained for cleanliness and temperature. Staff monitor everything by hand to ensure comfort throughout the day.

Guests with Tattoos

Tattoos are not permitted in the public baths, including the outdoor onsen. However, you can enjoy a private bath by making a reservation at the front desk.
