Overview
Gora Kansuiro, located in the charming hot spring area of Gora in Hakone, offers a unique stay within a historical setting. Originally, a villa of the Iwasaki family, founders of Mitsubishi, it opened as a ryokan in 1949. The inn retains the elegance of Taisho-era architecture, surrounded by lush gardens. With its rich history, including visits from the Showa Emperor, Gora Kansuiro is a place to experience traditional Japanese hospitality.
Accommodation
The ryokan has 14 distinct Japanese-style rooms, divided into three areas: Ichishotei, Shunjutei, and Hanare. Each room varies in size and design, offering a blend of traditional elements such as tatami mats, sliding paper doors, and indoor baths. Some rooms overlook the beautiful gardens, allowing you to enjoy seasonal views throughout the year.
Dining
At Gora Kansuiro, meals focus on traditional kaiseki cuisine. Fresh seafood from Sagami Bay, local vegetables, and other seasonal ingredients are carefully selected to create exquisite dishes. The menu changes every two months, offering a different dining experience with each visit. You can savor your meals in the dining room overlooking the gardens, where every dish is served at the perfect temperature for optimal taste.
Onsen & Wellness
Gora Kansuiro is home to the first hot spring discovered in the Gora area. The onsen facilities include an open-air bath and two indoor baths, all fed by the inn’s private hot spring sources. The alkaline waters are known for their soothing and healing properties, easing muscle pain, neuralgia, and fatigue. Bathing here is a serene experience, especially with views of cherry blossoms in spring and colorful foliage in autumn. The unique “Gourd Bath” and the historic “Tatsumi no Yu” add a touch of nostalgia.

Those with tattoos are welcome to use the baths. However, it’s best to inquire directly with the staff to confirm any specific guidelines regarding tattoos during your stay.
