Overview
Hakone Yumoto Onsen Gyokutei is a secluded ryokan located on a hill in the tranquil area of Hakone Yumoto, about a 10-minute walk from the station. With only eight detached guest rooms, each overlooking a serene garden, Gyokutei offers an intimate and peaceful experience. Surrounded by trees and a beautiful courtyard, the inn combines traditional Japanese charm with the rejuvenating benefits of its natural hot spring baths.
Accommodation
The eight spacious guest rooms are all in detached buildings, ensuring privacy and quiet. Each room has its own unique view of the central garden, featuring seasonal flowers and trees. You can enjoy the traditional Japanese atmosphere with tatami flooring and cypress or stone baths that draw water directly from the hot spring source. The rooms are perfect for couples, families, or small groups. Meals are served in-room for added comfort.
Dining
At Gyokutei, seasonal kaiseki cuisine is served in the privacy of your room, with each dish presented one at a time. Fresh seafood, local vegetables, and specialties like wagyu beef are crafted with care by the head chef, reflecting the flavors of each season. Special arrangements can be made for anniversaries or other celebrations, using premium ingredients such as spiny lobster and abalone.
Onsen & Wellness
The ryokan’s hot spring baths are known for their skin-beautifying properties. Each guest room features a private bath with free-flowing hot spring water that you can adjust to your liking. The sodium chloride sulfate hot spring is soothing and effective for neuralgia and muscle pain. For added relaxation, in-room aromatherapy treatments are available to enhance the benefits of the hot springs. Reservations are required for treatments.
Guests with Tattoos
Please use the private onsen in your room if you have tattoos.
Facilities
Gyokutei’s main attraction is its serene Japanese garden, which surrounds the guest rooms. The garden features a crape myrtle tree over 100 years old, offering seasonal beauty throughout the year. The ryokan’s proximity to nature allows you to enjoy the sounds of cicadas in summer and the delicate blossoms of cherry and plum trees in spring.
Activities
Beyond the ryokan, Hakone Yumoto offers plenty of opportunities for exploration. Take a short walk to the nearby hot spring district, or visit local attractions like the Hakone Open-Air Museum or Lake Ashi. The steep walk from Hakone Yumoto Station is well worth it for the tranquility Gyokutei offers.
