Overview

Hitomaru Kadan sits near the Akashi Strait, offering you a deeply traditional ryokan experience shaped by over 75 years of history. This is where you can savor Akashi’s rich culinary culture, unwind in natural hot spring baths, and relax in carefully crafted Japanese-style rooms. From the moment you step inside, the ryokan draws you away from everyday life and into a space dedicated to taste, comfort, and quiet moments.

Accommodation

Every room at Hitomaru Kadan shows the ryokan’s dedication to detail and seasonality. You’ll see it in the hanging scrolls that change with the season, the fresh floral arrangements, and the design of each room, some of which display the iconic aoi crest. Whether you prefer a room with a traditional tatami floor or one with tables and chairs, you can choose the setting that suits your style.

Check-in starts at 4:00 PM, and check-out is at 10:00 AM. All rooms come with Wi-Fi, a TV, and a washlet toilet. You’ll find essentials like yukata, towels, and toothbrushes ready for you. If you need a razor or shower cap, just ask at the front desk.

Dining

Hitomaru Kadan is proud to serve seasonal multi-course meals made from local ingredients, with a special focus on Akashi’s most famous catches—sea bream, octopus, and conger eel. You can enjoy these dishes in your room, giving you privacy and comfort as you dine.

In June and July, you can book a limited-time octopus kaiseki plan featuring fresh Akashi octopus in several preparations. During this period, you’ll get to taste octopus tempura, octopus rice, and other seasonal dishes that highlight this summer delicacy.

Several dining plans are available:

  • Special Akashi Kaiseki: Try “Kaitouge,” a rare local delicacy made from octopus eggs. Served in clear soup or vinegared dishes, this specialty appears alongside grilled sea bream and tempura conger eel.
  • Sea Bream Sashimi Plan: Celebrate with a whole sea bream sashimi platter and sea bream grilled in a clay pot. This is a great option for birthdays or other special occasions.
  • Women’s Mini Kaiseki Plan: This lighter, nutritionist-approved meal is ideal if you’re looking for a balanced and health-conscious option. It’s rich in nutrients but lower in calories and fat.
  • Akashi Seafood Plan (tax-deductible with local donation): Taste the full lineup of Akashi’s signature seafood—sea bream, octopus, and eel—all in one dinner.

If you’re only visiting for the day, you can still book lunch and enjoy a private room and hot spring access. Lunch sets include sea bream rice or whole sea bream sashimi, with prices starting from ¥8,800 on weekdays.

Onsen and Wellness

The ryokan’s baths use water from Arima Onsen, one of Japan’s most renowned hot springs. You can soak in large wooden baths or relax in the outdoor garden baths made from granite and marble. The iron-rich water retains heat well and helps ease muscle tension and cold sensitivity.

You can enjoy the baths from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. You’ll receive a hand towel with your plan, and you can rent a bath towel for a small fee. If you’re visiting for a day trip, you can bathe as often as you like during your reservation time.

Guests with Tattoos

If you have tattoos, you can use the private bath options or reserve a room with its own bath. The ryokan offers flexibility, so you can enjoy your time without concern. Let the staff know when you book.

Facilities

The ryokan includes several private dining rooms and traditional banquet spaces, suitable for everything from formal meals to family celebrations. You can also arrange for a private room for lunch or dinner even if you’re not staying overnight. During meals, you’ll sit in a tatami room with the option of low tables or regular chairs.

A beautifully designed garden surrounds the ryokan, offering quiet views from the rooms and bathing areas. While there isn’t a sunken kotatsu or tea house, the setting invites you to unwind.

Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, so you can stay connected while you relax.

Activities

Hitomaru Kadan doesn’t run structured cultural events, but the ryokan encourages you to enjoy traditional cuisine, seasonal foods, and the natural rhythm of Japanese hospitality. Take a stroll in the garden or explore the local Akashi area. In the summer, you can try a yukata to complete the experience.

If you’re in the area during June or July, don’t miss the seasonal octopus dishes or the limited-time summer day plans. These feature soft-simmered octopus, octopus tempura, and octopus rice—all served in a quiet, private dining space.
