Overview

Kagaya stands on the shores of Nanao Bay in the Hokuriku region, offering a traditional ryokan experience that spans more than a century. The ryokan has earned recognition as Japan’s best, thanks to its long-standing dedication to heartfelt hospitality. Generations of okami, female proprietresses, have passed down their skills to ensure that every stay feels personal and special.

Kagaya combines its heritage with genuine care, helping you enjoy the beauty of Noto’s culture, landscapes, and seasonal changes. Its location makes it easy to explore the Noto Peninsula, Kanazawa, and beyond while enjoying sweeping views of the sea.

Accommodation

At Kagaya, your room isn’t just a place to sleep—it’s part of the experience. The ryokan has four buildings: Setsugetsuka, Noto Nagisatei, Noto Kyakuden, and Noto Honjin. Each one offers a unique style and setting, always with a focus on Japanese aesthetics.

Setsugetsuka

These Japanese-style rooms reflect the natural beauty of each season. You’ll find tatami floors, shoji screens, and fresh seasonal flowers that create a tranquil atmosphere. The top floors are known as Hamarikyu, a special executive area with panoramic sea views and elegant design elements that echo old-world craftsmanship.

Noto Nagisatei

These rooms include options with private open-air baths. You can soak while looking out over a small garden. Japanese-Western hybrid rooms and connected room options are available for added flexibility. Meals are served in your room for a private dining experience.

Noto Kyakuden

Traditional Japanese rooms here let you relax with the soft sea breeze from Nanao Bay. You can choose ocean-facing or town-facing rooms.

Noto Honjin

Located near the heart of Wakura Onsen, Noto Honjin offers Japanese-style rooms where you can enjoy the liveliness of the town along with your peaceful stay. Onsen, Noto Honjin offers Japanese-style rooms where you can enjoy the liveliness of the town along with your peaceful stay.

When you arrive, Kagaya serves you matcha tea and original sweets in your room, a thoughtful introduction to your stay.

Dining

Kagaya’s cuisine reflects the flavors of the Noto Peninsula. The chefs use seasonal ingredients and traditional techniques to prepare dishes that highlight local seafood, vegetables, and regional delicacies.

Spring brings sea bream and rare isaza fish. In summer, you’ll enjoy abalone and turban shell. Fall brings flavorful seafood caught with trawl nets, and winter delivers rich Kano crabs and yellowtail.

You’ll also find colorful and nutritious Kaga vegetables—heirloom produce grown in the Kanazawa region. These dishes pair beautifully with carefully selected drinks, including Kagaya’s original sake, wine, and shochu.

Meals are served either in your room or in one of Kagaya’s elegant dining venues, such as Shikitei, which offers views of the bay, or Hokuto, the sky garden restaurant overlooking Wakura Onsen.

Onsen and Wellness

Wakura Onsen is Hokuriku’s only seaside hot spring, flowing with mineral-rich water for over 1,200 years. Kagaya offers multiple communal and open-air baths so you can relax with ocean views and the scent of salt air.

Ebisu no Yu (Men’s Bath)

Spanning three floors, this area provides sea-facing baths and an elevator that makes it easy to explore each level without stepping outside.

Benten no Yu (Women’s Bath)

This spacious, two-level bath includes an open-air section and a salon for post-bath refreshments. You can gaze out over Nanao Bay while you relax.

Kashin no Yu (Women’s Bath)

Designed with colorful tiles, this bath feels like a fantasy escape. It faces the ocean and uses mirrored glass to ensure your privacy.

Kagaya also provides guidance on how to enjoy the baths safely, especially if you have sensitive skin. You can also try drinking a small amount of the spring water from dedicated drinking stations in the bath area.

Guests with tattoos

If you have tattoos, Kagaya asks that you avoid using the communal baths.
