Overview

At Kotohira Yachiyo, you’ll experience the warmth of long-standing hospitality in a ryokan with nearly 300 years of history. Founded in 1725 and located in the heart of Kotohira, this inn combines traditional charm with the natural beauty of Setouchi. The hotel’s rooftop open-air baths offer views of Kompirasan and the Sanuki Plain, while your room provides a calm and private space to relax.

Yachiyo is known as one of the original Konpira Onsen inns. It continues to offer you a peaceful escape with thoughtful service, seasonal meals, and a variety of rooms designed for comfort and style.

Accommodation

Kotohira Yachiyo has 39 rooms, offering a range of options from pure Japanese-style spaces to modern Japanese-Western layouts. Some rooms come with private semi-open-air baths, created by expert craftsmen, and spacious interiors perfect for families or couples.

Room types include:

  • Premium Japanese + Western Room: A spacious 70㎡ layout with twin beds, a private bath, and a dedicated dining area where you can enjoy meals in your room.
  • Ogatama and Kemari: Designer rooms featuring semi-open-air baths. Each bath is uniquely designed—Ogatama with cypress, Kemari with stone.
  • Modern Japanese + Western Room: A room with twin beds and a large bathroom with an open window.
  • Japanese + Western Room: An 18㎡ Japanese room with semi-double twin beds.
  • Pure Japanese Rooms: Traditional tatami flooring and futon bedding. These rooms vary in size and suit both solo travelers and families.

All rooms are non-smoking and include a bath and toilet, air conditioning, refrigerator, TV, yukata, towels, toiletries, and more. Some rooms offer additional comforts like dining tables, massage chairs, or scenic soaking tubs.

Dining

You can enjoy the seasonal flavors of Setouchi and Sanuki in Kaiseki-style meals that highlight local ingredients like seafood from the Seto Inland Sea and beef from Kagawa Prefecture. Each dish is carefully prepared to reflect the taste of the season.

Meal options include:

  • Shiosai Kaiseki: Features sashimi, grilled local beef, golden-fried shrimp, steamed dishes, and dessert.
  • Local Sanuki Delights: Offers beef with garlic miso, seasonal fish, Sanuki udon, and specialty appetizers.
  • Upgraded Steak Kaiseki: Includes a hearty beef steak, sashimi, steamed dishes, and regional specialties.
  • Standard Kaiseki: A well-balanced course with seasonal vegetables, local seafood, and Sanuki udon.
  • Winter Pork Shabu-Shabu: Features local pork, fried dishes, sashimi, and seasonal sides.
  • Omakase Kaiseki: A chef-selected course offering traditional dishes and flavors of Kagawa.

Meals are served either in your room’s dining space or at the meal venue, depending on your chosen plan.

Onsen and Wellness

You’ll find multiple options to soak and unwind at Yachiyo:

  • Rooftop Open-Air Bath: Renewed in 2022, this bath offers a panoramic view of Kompirasan and the surrounding town. It includes both a reclining “sleep bath” and a circular “waist bath.” Men and women bathe in shifts throughout the day.
  • Designer Private Bath Fukufune: Located on an upper floor, this private bath is built with warm wood and offers full privacy for couples or families. Advance reservation is required.
  • In-Room Semi-Open-Air Baths: Available in designer rooms, these private baths allow you to soak whenever you like in your own peaceful space.
  • Large Indoor Bath: Separate facilities for men and women, available during morning and evening hours.

The hot spring is a sodium-chloride cold spring, known for helping with circulation, dry skin, and fatigue.
