Overview

Arashiyama Onsen Kadensho is a lovely ryokan located in the heart of Arashiyama, Kyoto, directly across from Hankyu Arashiyama Station. The ryokan is named after “Kadensho” by Zeami, symbolizing the beauty of secrets like a hidden flower. If you are after a ryokan that has natural hot springs, fine Kyoto cuisine, and a selection of private baths, then Kadensho is for you. Besides, it’s just a short train ride away from central Kyoto, making it convenient too.

Accommodation

Each room at Kadensho is crafted to evoke the spirit of Kyoto.

  • Kyoto Machiya rooms are inspired by traditional townhouses.
  • Kyoto Modern rooms feature Western-style beds while maintaining Japanese elements, perfect for a relaxing stay.
  • Kyoto Japanese Style rooms offer a more traditional experience with tatami mats and futon bedding, ideal for those seeking an authentic ryokan experience.

The ryokan does have a room with tatami area and a private open air bath.

All rooms are thoughtfully designed with traditional furnishings, tea sets, and incense, ensuring a peaceful retreat.

Dining

At Kadensho, guests can enjoy the Shiki Yuzen Kaiseki dinner, a multi-course meal showcasing seasonal Kyoto ingredients. Meals are served in private dining rooms along Gourmet Alley Kitayama, where you can also enjoy a buffet of small dishes and freshly prepared tempura. The focus is on “one soup and five side dishes,” allowing you to experience the delicate balance of Kyoto’s culinary traditions.

Onsen & Wellness

The ryokan features a large communal bathhouse, Heian no Yu, along with five unique private baths, each offering a different atmosphere and style. The private baths, including the Mist Bath, Cypress Dream Bath, and Bamboo Garden Bath, are available free of charge and can be used without reservation.

The Fufu no Yu open-air bath, located nearby, offers a soothing soak in natural Arashiyama hot spring water, known for its skin-beautifying and fatigue-relieving properties.
