Nishimuraya Honkan consistently tops the chart as the best ryokan with onsen in Japan and you can see why. Nishimuraya Honkan is surrounded by the Otoshi River, river trees and traditional stone bridges. It has a history of over 160 years and everything about it screams elegance, traditional and quality.
Nishimuraya Honkan was also rated by Lonely Planet as the Best Onsen Ryokan in Japan.
Accommodation
Rooms at Nishimuraya Honkan are stunning, created to embody the essence of traditional Japanese living. Rooms here have tatami floor mats, sliding paper window doors and gorgeous views of the perfectly manicured Japanese gardens.
If you ever imaged staying in a traditional ryokan that also screams luxury, Nishimuraya Honkan is the place for you. As with every high end onsen ryokan, Nishimuraya Honkan also features ultra luxury suites with private open air baths.
Dining
Nishimuraya Honkan prides itself on its culinary products, with a focus on Kaiseki cuisine. Ingredients are sourced locally, featuring seasonal specialties such as Matsuba crab and Tajima beef, the origin of Kobe beef. Meals are served in private rooms, providing an intimate dining experience that highlights the local flavors and craftsmanship of Nishimuraya’s skilled chefs.
Onsen & Wellness
The ryokan features several onsen options, including large indoor baths and unique outdoor baths set in natural surroundings. You will have access to Yoshino-yu, a luxury cypress bath giving off the scent of wood. There is a gazebo style open air bath for a better sense of openness.
Fukunoyu has an indoor and open air bath with light colored tiles. There are Chinese pavements and even the words happiness written on the floor.
Naoyu is an indoor large bath overlooking the garden.
Guests with tattoos
If a guest has a tattoo, they may use the hotel hot spring bath if the tattoo can be covered by a waterproof seal. Please cover the tattoo before coming to the baths, as the hotel does not supply waterproof seals. Alternatively, simply book a room with a private onsen so you can enjoy the private hot spring baths without disturbance.
