Overview

Stay at Yoshikawaya, a long-established ryokan in Anabara Onsen, just 2 km from Iizaka Onsen in Fukushima. Known as “deep Iizaka,” this historic hot spring area is one of the three famous baths of the old Oshu region, along with Akiu and Naruko. Since 1841, Yoshikawaya has been preserving and sharing the healing waters of its own private hot spring source.

Set in a valley, the ryokan offers you sweeping views of Mt. Katakura and the Surikami River. No matter the season, you can watch nature’s colors change — pink cherry blossoms in spring, lush greenery in summer, vibrant reds and golds in autumn, and peaceful snow in winter.

Accommodation

With 128 rooms to choose from, you can find the perfect space for your needs. All rooms feature baths (either hot tap water or onsen) and toilets, creating a comfortable environment for your stay.

Room Types

  • Standard Rooms: Traditional Japanese-style rooms with tatami and futon bedding.
  • Rooms with Beds: A combination of Japanese style and Western comfort, ideal if you prefer a bed over futon.
  • Rooms with Open-Air Baths: Enjoy your own private onsen while taking in fresh air and seasonal views.
  • Special Two-Room Suites: Larger layouts for extra space and relaxation.
  • VIP Rooms: Elegant spaces that have hosted Japan’s Emperor and Empress, offering the highest level of refinement.

You can move around the ryokan in slippers, changing to shoes only when going outside. If you need items such as air purifiers or humidifiers, just ask the staff.

Dining

Dinner focuses on traditional Japanese cuisine, changing four times a year to reflect the seasons. The head chef takes pride in preparing dishes with care, complemented by a selection of Japanese sake.

Breakfast is a buffet where you can choose from a selection of dishes to suit your taste. Meals are served during set hours, ensuring you have time to relax and enjoy each course.

Onsen and Wellness

Relax in Yoshikawaya’s weak alkaline simple hot spring, known for its gentle effect on the skin. The ryokan maintains the perfect temperature so you can bathe in comfort while admiring the mountain and river views.

Bathing Areas

  • Open-Air Baths: “Saruami-no-Yu” and “Kamoshika-no-Yu,” which swap between men’s and women’s use morning and evening.
  • Large Public Baths: “Tota-no-Yu” and “Benten-no-Yu,” also alternating between men’s and women’s use.

Private Bath – Yuno

Reserve a private bath with both indoor and open-air bathing areas. It is barrier-free and large enough for families or small groups. Reservations can be made when booking your stay or upon check-in.

Hot Spring Qualities

The water contains sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium ions. Bathing can help with skin conditions, neuralgia, joint pain, fatigue, and stress. The weak alkaline water gently removes old skin cells, leaving your skin refreshed.

Guests with Tattoos

If you have tattoos, you can enjoy the private “Yuno” bath without concerns about shared bathing spaces.
