Overview

Ryokan Sennari sits just a two-minute walk from JR Beppu Station, offering you a peaceful retreat in the center of the city. This traditional ryokan has welcomed travelers since 1933. Step inside, and you’ll leave the everyday world behind. The bamboo grove sways gently, seasonal trees color the landscape, and koi glide through the garden pond. Here, time slows down so you can relax and enjoy the quiet moments that define a stay in Beppu.

Accommodation

Sennari welcomes only eight parties per night, giving you a quiet and private stay. Each room blends Japanese design with natural elements. Choose from several room types, including special rooms with private open-air baths.

Maki Special Room: Relax in two spacious Japanese-style rooms with a private open-air bath. This layout fits families and small groups, offering space for up to six people.

Takasaki Room: Enjoy the mix of Japanese and Western comfort in a room with a tatami area and twin beds. This space includes a private bath.

Take Special Room: Gaze at the garden from your bed or soak in your personal semi-open-air hot spring bath. This room fits up to five people.

Kaede Room: Soak in a private open-air bath with views of the garden. This ten-tatami room with an extended seating area suits up to six people.

Standard Japanese Rooms: These traditional rooms feature tatami flooring and a calm, nostalgic atmosphere.

Every room includes air conditioning, a refrigerator with drinks for purchase, and all the essential toiletries. Please note that the ryokan is entirely non-smoking.

Dining

You’ll enjoy dinner and breakfast crafted from seasonal ingredients and local specialties. Sennari’s chefs focus on the natural flavor of each item without over-decoration. Dishes feature Oita’s finest, like Bungo beef, seared saba mackerel, fugu, and sashimi made from freshly caught fish.

Sample a full-course kaiseki dinner with multiple seasonal plates, including sashimi, grilled items, simmered dishes, and dessert. You can also choose plans that highlight Bungo beef steak, sekiaji horse mackerel sashimi, or winter-only torafugu courses.

Meals are served in a relaxed setting, where you can enjoy each bite at your own pace. Please reserve early—dinner is limited to ten groups each evening.

Onsen and Wellness

Soak in Beppu’s famous natural hot spring water, flowing directly from the source. Sennari features open-air baths and stone baths for private use.

Private Family Baths: Reserve one of three unique styles of private baths. Each one offers quiet space and a different atmosphere, including rock-lined baths and baths surrounded by bamboo.

In-room Baths: Some rooms include private hot spring baths, allowing you to unwind any time in complete privacy.

Shared Baths: Open from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., these baths include indoor and outdoor options filled with natural hot spring water.

The onsen’s high mineral content leaves your skin smooth and refreshed. Please don’t drink the water—it’s not approved for internal use.

Guests with Tattoos

The ryokan does not allow tattooed individuals to use shared baths, so please plan accordingly and reserve a private space.
