Overview
Tenku Yubo Seikaiso sits on the coast of Beppu Bay, offering wide views of the sea and access to the famous Beppu Hot Springs. This ryokan brings you right to the edge of relaxation with its rooftop open-air baths, private onsen experiences, and freshly prepared meals. You can watch the sunrise from the bath, breathe in the salty ocean air, and enjoy the soothing heat of Beppu’s natural waters. From the moment you check in, the ryokan makes it easy for you to slow down and enjoy.
Accommodation
Choose from several room types to match your travel style. If you’re looking for comfort and privacy, the semi-open-air bath rooms let you soak in your own bath while taking in the view of Beppu Bay. These rooms come with semi-double twin beds, modern toilets, a washbasin, and thoughtful amenities like lotion and cleansing oil.
You can also pick a Japanese-style room with a private footbath on the veranda. These are located on the top floor and face the ocean, letting you relax in hot water while looking out over the water and the city lights at night.
The sea view Japanese-style rooms offer more space and a full view of the bay. If you’re looking to save, the street-side Japanese rooms offer the same clean style but at a lower price, without an ocean view.
For a different look, stay in the Western-style twin room with imported Southeast Asian furniture and a view of Beppu’s townscape.
All rooms include air conditioning, a refrigerator, a humidifier, and basic amenities. Smoking is allowed only in rooms and only with electronic cigarettes. You can request deodorization if you prefer a non-smoking environment.
Dining
Your stay includes the choice of several kaiseki meals, all crafted with care and full of regional flavor. The “Sora” course features Bungo beef grilled on ceramic plates, sashimi from the local waters, and Beppu-style tempura. You can even choose between steamed rice and crab-soaked rice porridge.
The “Hana” dinner centers around sukiyaki made with tender Japanese Wagyu, served with vegetables and udon noodles. This is a popular meal year-round, filling and rich in flavor.
For a lighter option, the “Umi” meal offers a casual kaiseki experience with fresh fish, seasonal vegetables, and Oita’s famous chicken tempura.
Breakfast includes rice from Oita, miso soup, and a traditional Japanese set. You can ask the staff for refills of rice and soup. Meals are served in private dining rooms when available or in the hall. The tatami dining rooms use antibacterial mats, and the staff can adjust seating arrangements based on your group size.
Children’s meals include hamburg steak, fried shrimp, sashimi, and desserts. Even toddlers get their own special plate with soup and hand-rolled sushi rice.
Onsen and Wellness
The rooftop baths are the highlight of Seikaiso. The four private open-air baths—named after stars and galaxies—let you enjoy hot spring water with complete privacy and an unmatched ocean view. Each bath features a ReFa shower head, known for its skin benefits. You can book one of these baths for 45 minutes, either as part of your stay or as a day-use visit.
You can also enjoy the large public indoor bath, newly renovated in 2022. With its bright tiles and full ocean view, it offers a peaceful experience whether you soak in the evening or catch the sunrise over the bay.
You’re welcome to visit the baths at the sister property, Seaside Hotel Mimatsu Oetei, just a short walk away. This includes a rooftop bath and an observatory bath, open from early morning until late at night.
Guests with Tattoos: If you have tattoos, you can use the private rooftop baths without issue. These spaces are fully private, so there are no restrictions.
Facilities
You’ll find everything you need for a relaxing stay. The top floor footbath is available in rooms with that feature and offers a quiet place to unwind with a view. The lobby and front entrance were renovated to reflect a warm, Kyoto-inspired design, especially striking when lit up at night.
The ryokan includes a banquet hall for group events, a massage service (available for an extra charge), and Wi-Fi throughout the building.
Activities
You can reserve a private onsen or explore Beppu using the ryokan as your base. While you’re there, ask the staff to take a photo of you in front of the bamboo and maple garden—a perfect memory before you leave.
