Sounkyo Kanko Hotel is located in the breathtaking Sounkyo Gorge within Daisetsuzan National Park, a perfect base for exploring the area’s natural beauty. Enjoy the sounds of the nearby Ishikari River while relaxing in one of Hokkaido’s largest open-air baths, “Utariri.” The mixed-gender bath, where guests wear special bathing attire, allows families to experience the outdoor onsen together.

Accommodation

Sounkyo Kankou Hotel has different types of rooms in either the main building or in its annex.

• Four types of reasonably priced rooms with a bright and open atmosphere are offered in the main building “Saika”, which is perfect for viewing the stunning natural surroundings.
• The Annex “Shiki” has fancy Japanese rooms with gardens that represent the four seasons on each floor. It’s a luxurious and traditional experience.

Dining

Enjoy a buffet-style dining experience that highlights the best of seasonal ingredients. The newly renovated dinner buffet was opened in November 2021 and features live kitchen stations serving freshly prepared steaks and handmade sausages.

Onsen & Wellness

Sounkyo Kankou Hotel’s hot spring facilities offer a range of baths:

• Utariri Gorge Open-Air Bath: A mixed-gender bath where guests wear bathing attire, making it ideal for families. The bath is surrounded by natural rock formations and a cascading waterfall, enhancing the connection to nature.
• Large Communal Baths “Seirei” and “Tsuki no Shizuku”: Spacious indoor baths with different water temperatures and open windows for a relaxing soak.
• Open-Air Bath “Subaru”: Two distinct atmospheres—rock and wood—located by the mountain stream, offering a serene and refreshing experience.

Guests with Tattoos

Guests with tattoos are welcome to use the hotel’s hot springs if their tattoos are covered by a waterproof seal. These seals should be applied before arrival, as the hotel does not provide them.
