Overview

Todaya Ryoan offers a deeply traditional and private stay in the heart of Ise, with only two reservations accepted per day. Tucked into a peaceful garden with timeless sukiya-style architecture, this ryokan invites you to experience the spirit of Ise through refined hospitality, heartfelt cuisine, and quiet surroundings. A stay here feels like stepping into the pages of history, where each detail reflects a dedication to harmony, warmth, and lasting traditions.

Accommodation

At Todaya Ryoan, you stay in a traditional sukiya-style room, surrounded by the stillness of nature. The layout includes wooden beams, hand-finished columns, antique décor, and carefully curated ceramic pieces. Large windows open to a waterfall garden, and the sound of flowing water mingles with the gentle echo of a suikinkutsu, a hidden water harp buried beneath the garden stones.

The space offers quiet elegance and a retreat-like atmosphere, ideal for those seeking rest and contemplation. The dining and lodging spaces are completely separate, allowing you to enjoy your meals with privacy and peace.

Dining

Your stay includes multi-course kaiseki meals carefully prepared with fresh ingredients from Ise and the surrounding regions. The cuisine honors the changing seasons, and each dish is plated with intention and care. From locally sourced seafood like Ise lobster and abalone to hand-picked vegetables and traditional Ise flavors, every meal reflects the ryokan’s deep culinary heritage.

Courses may include:

  • Seasonal appetizers and simmered dishes
  • Sashimi from local waters
  • Steamed specialties and grilled selections
  • Hot pot options
  • Delicately flavored rice and dessert

Vegetarian options and allergy accommodations are available with advance notice. The ryokan prepares all meals with great care, although complete allergen removal cannot be guaranteed due to shared kitchen tools and ingredients.

Onsen and Wellness

Todaya Ryoan focuses on calm rather than large-scale hot spring facilities, offering a relaxing atmosphere instead of public bathing. Your bath area allows you to enjoy a quiet soak in your room without distraction. While there are no expansive onsen complexes on site, the ryokan’s peaceful setting and elegant service bring a similar sense of restoration.

Since there are no public baths, guests with tattoos do not need to worry about restrictions. The atmosphere of privacy ensures you can fully enjoy your experience without concern.

About Todaya Ryoan

Todaya’s legacy began in 1830 as a kappo-style restaurant in Uji Furuichi and later grew into a historic inn welcoming pilgrims to Ise Jingu. In 1994, it was renewed as “Todaya Ryoan,” a refined space where you can savor traditional hospitality in a serene sukiya-style setting. The ryokan’s buildings and garden reflect centuries of craftsmanship and offer an atmosphere of quiet dignity and understated elegance.

With each visit, you step into a living history—guided by tradition, elevated by seasonal cuisine, and supported by heartfelt service.
