Overview
Kanoya Korakuen offers a unique stay in the heart of Katayamazu Onsen, a well-known hot spring town in Ishikawa Prefecture. With its abundant natural hot spring source, this ryokan invites you to soak in freshly drawn mineral-rich waters, enjoy meals that celebrate local flavors, and unwind with views of the vast Shibayamagata Lake. Whether you’re here to relax in a private bath or explore the nearby onsen town, Kanoya Korakuen delivers an authentic and memorable experience.
Accommodation
All rooms at Kanoya Korakuen face Lake Shibayamagata, offering uninterrupted panoramic views. Several room types are available, including new options added in 2024.
For the most luxurious experience, stay in one of the new Panorama View rooms. These rooms feature a private half-open-air bath with natural hot spring water. Choose between the Japanese-Western hybrid room with twin Simmons beds and tatami seating (Room 501), or a traditional Japanese-style room with Airweave mattresses and Yogibo cushions (Room 601). Both include a toilet and ReFa showerheads for added comfort.
You can also stay in one of the exclusive special rooms, located one per floor. These rooms come with spacious tatami interiors and a separate sitting area, perfect for relaxing with friends or family. During fireworks season, these are among the most popular rooms.
If you’re traveling in a larger group, the “Danran no Ma” features an extra room, making it ideal for families or gatherings of up to eight people. Simmons bed-equipped rooms with advanced showers are available for those who prefer a bed to traditional futons.
All rooms include towels, yukata, tea sets, and basic toiletries. Some come with a bath, while others provide access to shared onsen facilities.
Dining
Your meals at Kanoya Korakuen reflect the best of Hokuriku’s seasonal ingredients. The ryokan’s dinner courses change throughout the year, but you can always expect local seafood and delicacies served in a refined multi-course kaiseki style.
The “Shifuku Kaiseki Plan” includes specialties like fresh sashimi, abalone, beef, and crab. If you’re looking for something simpler or traveling on business, try the one-night stay with Japanese breakfast, which features homemade hot spring eggs with a light salty flavor.
You can dine in your room or in a dedicated hall, depending on your booking. Breakfast and dinner times are spaced to allow you to fully relax and enjoy every dish.
Onsen and Wellness
Kanoya Korakuen uses water from one of Katayamazu’s most potent sources. Because it’s so close to the hot spring distribution center, the water arrives hot and fresh, and in large volume. You can feel the difference immediately—the water has a silky touch, warms your body deeply, and leaves your skin feeling smooth long after you’ve dried off.
You’ll find large public baths for both men and women, each with indoor and outdoor sections. The baths operate from 3:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., and again from 5:30 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. You can use them freely during your stay. Amenities include shampoo, conditioner, soap, razors, and other essentials.
If you prefer privacy, you can reserve one of two private hot spring baths. “Oshidori” features a Shigaraki-ware tub and tatami-lined changing space, while “Nagomi” has a marble tub and wider area. Both offer barrier-free access. Advance booking is required, and times run from 3:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and 8:15 a.m. the following morning.
The water is a sodium-calcium chloride spring, known for its ability to retain heat and soothe fatigue. It may also help with digestive issues, skin conditions, and more. The bathwater is lightly filtered for cleanliness, but the core mineral properties remain untouched.
You can even drink the onsen water, which is rich in minerals and believed to aid digestion. In the morning, try a homemade hot spring egg that subtly reflects the saltiness of the mineral water.
Guests with Tattoos
If you have tattoos, you can use the private hot spring baths without restriction. Please check availability when you book your stay.
Facilities
The onsen area includes indoor baths, garden-view outdoor baths, and reclining-style “sleeping baths” that let you soak while lying down. A fully equipped changing area provides everything you need for a relaxing soak.
You can enjoy a cold beer at the tea lounge “Tsujigahana” right after your bath, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at a discounted price.
The ryokan also features an art gallery with traditional crafts from Ishikawa. It’s a quiet corner to explore while walking around the building.
Activities
Kanoya Korakuen offers classic post-bath entertainment, including table tennis. It’s a fun, nostalgic way to extend your onsen experience. Table reservations are required.
You can also take advantage of the ryokan’s location to walk around the Katayamazu hot spring town. Shibayamagata Lake stretches right in front of the building, and you’re close to shops, cafes, and other attractions.
