Overview

Issa no Komichi Biyu no Yado is an eco-conscious ryokan where you can fully enjoy the natural blessings of hot spring water. Located in Yamanouchi, Nagano, this inn draws from three different sources to create a unique, body-friendly hot spring blend. The water stays natural—undiluted, gently heated with a heat exchanger, and never exposed to excessive fuel use. This sustainable approach reduces emissions while providing you with a deeply relaxing and safe bathing experience.

Accommodation

You can choose from rooms with Western beds, traditional futons, or a combination of both. Some rooms include private open-air baths, giving you personal access to the mineral-rich spring water while enjoying fresh air and seasonal views.

Western-style Deluxe Room “Issa no Ma”

A spacious room with two Western-style beds and a private open-air bath.

Japanese-style Deluxe Room with Open-air Bath

A traditional room with four futons and a private open-air bath, ideal for relaxing in a more authentic setting.

Japanese-style Standard Room Type 1

Designed for up to four people with futon bedding on tatami mats.

Japanese-style Standard Room Type 2

Slightly smaller, this room fits three futons and works well for families or small groups.

Japanese-Western Style Superior Room

A flexible layout with two beds and two futons to accommodate up to four people.

All rooms reflect traditional aesthetics while offering comfort. The peaceful environment and gentle sounds of nature help you rest deeply after a day of exploring.

Dining

After soaking in the hot spring, enjoy a meal crafted with care. The chefs prepare seasonal wild plants, river fish from the Chikuma River, and local vegetables grown nearby. Meals are served in the dining hall at Japanese-style tables and chairs. If you have limited mobility, you can still dine comfortably.

Please note that meals are not served in your room. If you require vegetarian, vegan, or allergy-friendly meals, make sure to request them in advance.

Onsen and Wellness

All baths at Biyu no Yado use 100% natural spring water. Each bath includes a jacuzzi function, which not only soothes muscles but also softens the feel of the water.

The inn’s hot spring meister carefully monitors the water to ensure ideal quality and comfort. The baths are cleaned and swapped between genders daily, so you can enjoy a variety of spaces.

You can also reserve a rooftop open-air bath for private use. Please arrange this in advance. Remember to bring your own bath towel from your room.

Baths are not available between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, and undergo brief cleaning between 12:30 AM and 1:00 AM.

Guests with Tattoos

If you have tattoos, it’s a good idea to ask about making a private bath reservation. You can book the rooftop bath for private use, or choose a room that comes with its own private onsen bath.
