Kawazu Onsen is a hot spring area in Kawazu, on the eastern side of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture. It sits between the mountains and the Pacific, giving the town a quieter, more local feel than some of Izu’s larger resort areas. The setting is part of the appeal: small inns, winding roads, and a landscape shaped by river valleys, forested slopes, and the nearby coast.
Kawazu is best known across Japan for the early-blooming Kawazu-zakura cherry trees that flower ahead of the main spring season, drawing visitors to the riverbanks each year. Outside that period, the area suits travelers who like a slower pace and easy access to nature, whether for a soak at a ryokan, a walk through town, or a wider trip around the Izu Peninsula.
