Overview
Amis Droles is a playful hot spring resort in Kawazu, on the Izu Peninsula. You stay here for a rare onsen experience built around a naturally self-flowing hot spring source that reaches 100°C. The property brings this powerful source into its baths, hot spring pool, bedrock bath, and open-air bathing spaces, so water and warmth shape your whole stay.
The resort follows its “Seven Joys” concept: a source-fed hot spring pool, a nature-style lobby, geothermal bedrock bathing, individually designed rooms, source-fed open-air baths, Izu dining, and a night pool. You can spend your time swimming, soaking, resting, dining by the pool, and enjoying the lit-up water after dark.
Accommodation
You can choose from 8 rooms in total: 5 rooms in the main building and 3 pet-friendly annex rooms. The 5 main-building rooms all have source-fed ceramic open-air baths, toilets, washbasins, Simmons beds, and free Wi-Fi. The rooms each have a different color and atmosphere, so a repeat stay can feel different each time.
The main-building rooms range from about 21 to 32 square meters, plus the open-air bath space. Troir is about 30 square meters with two semi-double beds. Quatre and Cinq are about 21 square meters with one semi-double bed and one single bed. Six is about 25 square meters with two semi-double beds, while Sept is about 32 square meters with two semi-double beds. The second-floor rooms have individual open-air baths where you can soak while looking toward the illuminated pool.
Room amenities include a coffee maker, air purifier, hair dryer, refrigerator, DVD player, towels, skincare items, razor, cotton, cotton swabs, comb, shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and nightwear.
If you travel with your pet, you can stay in a pet-friendly annex room. These rooms come in Japanese-Western and Western-style layouts, with bath, toilet, washbasin, free Wi-Fi, and standard room amenities. The 3 pet annex rooms share a dedicated private open-air bath, and you can use it when it is available. Pets cannot enter the bathtub.
For a deeper private stay, you can also choose Okugomori no Hanare, a renovated old house that opened as a private villa in May 2025. This 84-square-meter building includes a natural hot spring bath, kitchen, living room, and bedroom. The bath uses Towada stone, and the source-fed natural hot spring flows from a wooden spout. You can also use the main building’s baths, hot spring pool, and bedrock bath.
Dining
Dinner at Amis Droles focuses on creative Western-style cuisine rather than a standard Japanese ryokan meal. You can enjoy a French course as the standard dinner, an upgraded course with Ise ebi spiny lobster, or a casual course centered on lighter dishes. The property also highlights Izu ingredients such as Ise ebi and kinmedai, a prized fish from East Izu.
You dine by the pool, where the evening lights create a special resort mood without making the meal feel formal. Breakfast is also served by the pool, so you can start the morning with the light reflecting across the water.
If you stay at Okugomori no Hanare with meals included, dinner and breakfast are self-service style. Ingredients are placed in the refrigerator, and you finish them with simple preparation such as warming. Example dinners may include appetizers, carpaccio salad, Japanese black beef sirloin shabu-shabu, and champon noodles, while example breakfasts may include salad, the chef’s special curry, and two types of bread. Menus may change depending on supply.
Onsen and Wellness
Amis Droles centers on a 100°C self-flowing hot spring source. You can enjoy 100% source-fed indoor baths and open-air baths, with one indoor bath and one open-air bath for each gender. Overnight bath use is available 24 hours except during cleaning. Day-use bathing is also available during set afternoon hours.
The open-air bath uses 100% free-flowing source water with no added heating and no added water. Because of this, you may see yunohana, the natural mineral deposits that form in hot spring water.
The hot spring pool uses source water and measures 25 meters with enough width for 6 lanes. You can swim during the day, relax on the poolside deck, and return at night for the illuminated night pool. In winter, especially at night, the official site notes that swimming may be difficult because of the cold, but you can still enjoy the steam rising over the pool.
The bedrock bath uses the heat of the hot spring source. You lie on natural stone in a room filled with hot spring steam, warming your body slowly and sweating without the sharp heat of a sauna. Rental items include special clothing, swimwear, a mat, and a large towel.
The hot spring is a sodium-chloride and sulfate spring. The official site lists indications including neuralgia, muscle pain, joint pain, sensitivity to cold, cuts, burns, recovery from fatigue, and general health promotion.
Guests with Tattoos
If you have tattoos, you need to wear a rash guard that covers them when using the hot spring pool.
Facilities
Amis Droles gives you many ways to enjoy its natural hot spring source throughout your stay. Around Kawazu, you can visit Kawazu-zakura cherry blossoms, Kawazu Nanadaru waterfalls, KawaZOO, iZoo, the Loop Bridge, Kawazu Bagatelle Park, and Izu Animal Kingdom. Kawazu-zakura usually reaches its best viewing period around late February, though the cherry trees around Amis Droles may bloom slightly later because of the higher elevation.
